Stadium Discussion

It helps to know that Google maps and most online maps are always oriented with North on top for your convenience. West is to the left. Home plate is south, and the sun will rise over one long side of the NYCFC stadium and set over the other, but not at perfect 90º angles, assuming the stadium is oriented as it is in these new renderings..

On the longest day of the year sunset at the stadium location is 8:30 pm, so the sun will dip below the stadium walls probably a good 20-30 minutes before that meaning with 7:40 pm starts the sun won't be bothering anyone, except maybe at the very beginning of games for a few minutes and during a very few weeks each year.

You can’t tell from the renderings, but it seems like there is only one level of stands, similar to Stade Saputo. I think if we had enough fans that we were selling out for a decade straight, they could potentially pull a Rio tinto or Audi Field and extend one half of the stadium up with a second layer of stands over the course of two or three winters and then if capacity is still selling out raise the other side to match. I don’t think building up would add much to the footprint. The stands would have to be even more vertical

NY is so unique that I think we still have the same attendance challenges even with a beautiful SSS and could regularly get 18-22 actual butts in seats. On a bad night with 30K capacity or even on the low side of that range, you would feel that. After 10 plus at YS with the atmosphere drain, I would feel better just knowing we will always have a pretty full house - on the best nights to capacity, and on an average night close enough. I could be wrong.

i agree. let's see what kind of attendance #s we get first. it is supposed to be expandable to 30k. as long as that's true, i don't see a reason to not start with 25K

25,000 vs 30,000 in a stadium, is it really that noticeable as a full capacity?
Like compare Geodis to RBA. Can hardly tell they're different capacities imo.

I really think we need 80k retractable stadium. So the upper levels fold in or peel back somehow to 30k lower bowl only. (Not that I want the jets to be able to play there or anything)

With a smaller capacity, you'll create supply and demand issues where it becomes hard to get a ticket because the games sell out frequently, so people buy tickets earlier to make sure they get into the games they want to go to. We have 22,000 on average now because people know they can always get a ticket, so they'll wait until gameday to see if it's a nice day and if they feel like going. With a 25,000 seat stadium, those people may think they have to buy earlier because if they don't, it'll sell out.

fwiw, a lot of stadiums in MLS don't have seats in the corners. Take austin and LAFC for example, and they are known for their electric atmospheres - so I don't think this is too too much of a problem

Actually it's pretty much a given that home plate in MLB parks are always facing westerly, so when the sun starts to set it's in the eyes of the fielders and not the batters. When a left handed pitcher is standing on the mound his throwing hand is facing south, hence the term Southpaw.

The only stadium I can recall that was screwy was the old Jarry Park where the Expos played. The sun actually set behind 3rd base and one game Don Clendenon of the Mets was making error after error playing 1st base, because he kept losing the throws in the sun.

just make sure the concourse isn't tiny like RBA, legends isn't the concessions company (booooooooo), and there are enough bathrooms.

Wow. The footprint is so much smaller in comparison.
Hey Seth, I hate to ask you to do free labor because I have no computer skills like you. But would you be able to compare the site to like Stade Suputo and Audi Field. I’m curious (especially with Audi) how they compare. I believe both of those stadiums only fit roughly 20k. So I’d be curious how they will add 5k more

Um, the highlighted area in the bottom photo clearly includes the surrounding trees and concourse, if you look the actual stadium itself is roughly the same size as the rba one.

URINALS! 👏URINALS! 👏URINALS!👏
Ballmer is such a clown. The walking definition of “too big to fail.” That a guy who failed so large is still rich enough to buy an NBA team in a top 2 market says so much about the flaws in our system. (Of course I support a club with some flawed owners).
