Stadium Discussion

So happy that they are being realistic and so far sticking with 25K capacity. We don’t want or need a seat more than that.

Totally fine with that too as long as there's the possibility of expanding in the future.

Definitely some changes in the stadium on this compared to the renderings at the announcement. Not sure if any of them are accurate or just a vague idea of the location / set up of the stadium.
I don’t like that it’s open in 2 corners. Worry it won’t hold in the noise the same way as a closed stadium. Looks like they were forced to by those roads.

Also, I’m sure there was a sun study to keep the sun out of the batters/pitchers eyes as much as possible when positioning Citi. The angle NYCFC’s stadium is at is different than home plate/mound. Could lead to the sun in the keepers’ eyes if kept in that direction. Again this looks like the roads forced it.

With all these angles and triangle shaped blocks just redraw the all the roads/blocks so things fit. The beauty of a blank slate is you don’t have to squeeze anything in. And how about some roundabouts while we’re at it??

I believe the sun sets over the third-base side of Citi Field, which means it would be setting over the midfield line, basically, at this orientation.

I think we can handle a stadium up to 30,000. Given our attendance history, I think consistently getting 24,000 or more in a proper soccer stadium should not be a problem. Remember that a stadium doesn't have to be 100% full to produce a great atmosphere - 80% can get that, and then we'd have additional capacity for bigger games.

I am not too worried about the cut off corners. There are all kinds of ways to keep the noise in the house even if there are no seats there - or if the seats don't go to the top.

In the end, though, I just want a stadium.

Actually it's pretty much a given that home plate in MLB parks are always facing westerly, so when the sun starts to set it's in the eyes of the fielders and not the batters. When a left handed pitcher is standing on the mound his throwing hand is facing south, hence the term Southpaw.

The only stadium I can recall that was screwy was the old Jarry Park where the Expos played. The sun actually set behind 3rd base and one game Don Clendenon of the Mets was making error after error playing 1st base, because he kept losing the throws in the sun.

And i always thought Southpaw was a boxing term. That was a great new fact the day. Thanks!

30K would be better for friendly and international games.

NY is so unique that I think we still have the same attendance challenges even with a beautiful SSS and could regularly get 18-22 actual butts in seats. On a bad night with 30K capacity or even on the low side of that range, you would feel that. After 10 plus at YS with the atmosphere drain, I would feel better just knowing we will always have a pretty full house - on the best nights to capacity, and on an average night close enough. I could be wrong.
