Stadium Discussion

I have a feeling it would be somewhere on Long Island maybe at the queens Nassau border would make more sense instead of making the team go north of the city
Agreed. Don’t want to be crossing bridges & tunnels to get to main facility. Maybe they have a deal with York College to replace QBFC (That still owes me $50) and change the plans a bit for a smaller stadiums and increased facilities. Otherwise, they do need to go a bit farther East to get the enough space for a number of open fields.

Yonkers would pay THEM to put a facility in. And frankly, putting something in…Yonkers, White Plains, Stamford makes a ton of sense commercially.

Is it as annoying to get to as belson/their current facitilies? I guess it would be closer than going across the Tappan (no i won't call it mario cuomo bridge) Zee

I don't know why, but I read this and thought "they're gonna buy the Cosmos from Rocco".

I know it's not happening, but it's cool they have aspirations to make the II more than a single A affiliate.

no way rocco sells. he rather keep them dead as they are now than give it to nycfc or any MLS entity.

what conftuses me about this is- doesn't MLS mandate that the 2 teams have to have the same name as the first team? Or did i mis-hear that?

its seems to be mixed reporting. I also heard that they did not want them to have their own names etc. IIRC miami wanted to keep the Ft. Lauderdale name as they had in USL 1 but was reported that MLS said no. and had to change it to a "2" name. but on the other hand both nashville and Charlotte have different names and logos. Seattle i think had tacoma since the USL days and was "grandfathered in"

possibly, no way they have the space to do all that within the city ( maybe Staten Island?) so Long Island is an option ( maybe some sort of shared facilities with the Long Island Rough Riders? ) or something like Yonkers Westchester. didnt one of the mayors up there offered an area to nycfc to build their stadium there? this was like 2017 ish.

i dont think there is any space in QBFC spot to do full blown academy and "II" team facilities. so i think that is out.

Yeah the mayor up there did in 2017. But honestly maybe just buy one of the golf course near or around the city.

I call it Daddy’s Bridge

Edit: for context, Andrew Cuomo was super Involved in the process of getting this bridge done in time. He would actually go down to the site and make sure everything was on time and what not. He was cementing his daddy’s legacy. Therefore, Daddy’s Bridge.

Long island has WAY too many golf courses. However this wouldn't solve the problem that Belson currently has of "very inconvenient"

I live in Westchester, there isn't a ton of space in southern Westchester for a sprawling practice facility. But if they were able to find a place in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, or Greenwich they'd be less than 30 minutes away from Etihad Cathedral. It's not going to happen because there is no space in those towns, but being in Westchester would be a great way for them to have a smaller footprint than Orangeburg to YS/CF.

I would say to you good sir that LI doesn’t have ENOUGH golf courses. You try getting a tee time during peak season and tell me otherwise.

I've always thought we should do a deal with the Roughriders and make them our #2 team. It's a great name and a long-standing team in that community. Win-win.

As for Yonkers, there's the racetrack, which is taking up a ton of space so that a few people can play the slot machines all day. True story - we just took a family trip to Italy, and one stop was the Circus Maximus in Rome, where the Romans held their chariot races. One of my kids said "too bad there aren't any chariot races today, could you imagine?" I had to reply "well, actually..."

It's a bit of a shame. Harness racing is fun to watch, at least on a one-time you-should-give-it-a-shot basis. But I can't really recommend someone go make an afternoon or night of it unless you want to play the machines also. There's just not enough people to make the viewing stands an exciting, fun atmosphere.

Speaking selfishly, I've always felt The Ball Park at St George would've been a perfect spot for NYCFCII.

It's a great minor league stadium to see a game (the irony is not lost on me) and not as difficult to get to as it may appear. There are any number of subway lines to lower Manhattan to the South Ferry and the building is literally steps away from the terminal on the SI side.

I always liked the idea of having the twos play in the cyclones stadium. The ones play in a major league ball park, the twos play in a minor league ball park. Everyone is upset on all levels!

It’s amazing how this thread has transitioned from where will NYCFC build a stadium (to getting that answer) to now where will they build the II facility and stadium? We’re always looking for a mystery to solve.

They could even alternate between the minor league stadiums in Brooklyn and Staten Island, then maybe play the occasional game at Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair to round out the full experience.
