Stadium Discussion

I live in Westchester, there isn't a ton of space in southern Westchester for a sprawling practice facility. But if they were able to find a place in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, or Greenwich they'd be less than 30 minutes away from Etihad Cathedral. It's not going to happen because there is no space in those towns, but being in Westchester would be a great way for them to have a smaller footprint than Orangeburg to YS/CF.

Stamford has NOTHING in the way community sports activities. White Plains has the County Center.

There is land to be had in Stamford, you have college kids, young commuters and a diverse population. Direct train is 38 minutes from Grand Central. Easier for city kids to get to than Belson.

I've always thought we should do a deal with the Roughriders and make them our #2 team. It's a great name and a long-standing team in that community. Win-win.

As for Yonkers, there's the racetrack, which is taking up a ton of space so that a few people can play the slot machines all day. True story - we just took a family trip to Italy, and one stop was the Circus Maximus in Rome, where the Romans held their chariot races. One of my kids said "too bad there aren't any chariot races today, could you imagine?" I had to reply "well, actually..."

thing is i dont know if they want to move to reserve league. even though USL 2 is more of a summer college league.

Speaking selfishly, I've always felt The Ball Park at St George would've been a perfect spot for NYCFCII.

It's a great minor league stadium to see a game (the irony is not lost on me) and not as difficult to get to as it may appear. There are any number of subway lines to lower Manhattan to the South Ferry and the building is literally steps away from the terminal on the SI side.

people mentioned it to be repurposed when the SI yankees left but they have a team playing there now i dont think they want a soccer team playing in there too. Plus i think other local college baseball teams use the field as well.

I'm a little behind but why wouldn't NYCFC2 just play in our new stadium? Union2, Timber2, and Rapids2 all play in their stadiums. According to the schedule Revs2 play at Gillette which seems crazy but our 25K seat stadium should be fine for NYCFC2.

The tldr is: they want to eventually rebrand the second team and give its own identity and own following. Having them play in the new stadium would make it difficult to reach another fan base

not directly related to our stadium, but interesting for the area

I'm all for development, but I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to these casino projects. The rosy projections, especially on tax revenue, never seem to pan out.

But hey, if Steve Cohen wants to throw a bunch of money at Willets Point then what the heck. The more going on around our stadium the happier I'll be. There are a lot of things I'd rather see than a casino, but there's nothing to say we can't have it all.

That's a complete nothing-burger of a news story from PIX. An assembly member introduced a bill. Lol.

The real action is in the new board being appointed which will decide where to award 3 casino licenses downstate. There will be many more bidders and applicants for those 3 spots, including Hudson yards, Times Square, Coney Island, Aqueduct, the Trump golf course in the Bronx, CitiField, Yonkers Raceway, and a bunch of others. The bill this story cites will have no effect on that decision. If the Citi site wins one of the 3 licenses, they'll work out the parkland issues.

The lobbying is hot and heavy: New York casino contracts are ‘absolute petri dish for corruption’
