Jeez, not only an article in today's paper, but one not delivered by a wire service. Go figure!

If developers saw casinos in Leicester Square, and saw how upscale casinos operate, i bet they’d change their mind. The stigma behind American casinos are too shit, they gotta go upscale; Airport Access, Ferry Access, Transit Access

Here's something to consider: the big casinos on the Strip profile differently than the casinos in downtown Las Vegas in terms of their functional economics:

Anyway, I've been wondering whether the project would get over were it to be just the Hard Rock Hotel, the concert venue, a locally owned restaurant row and maybe some smaller entertainment venues, rather than a casino.

I have no idea if the math would work from Cohen's perspective. Strategically, I can definitely see a planned entertainment district on the site rather than an attempt at creating some kind of gambler's mecca, especially considering what CFG and Related are doing in the Iron Triangle. The National Tennis Center is right there, too.

But of course, it's not my money.

There will be four event/concert venues (as of planned for now) in the area:
1. Citi Field
2. Citi Field parking lot
3. Arthur Ashe Stadium
4. Naming Rights Sponsor Stadium

Right. I was talking indoor, all year, all-weather. I think that's the Cohen proposal, at any rate. And the smaller venues would be for lesser-known acts: bars, jazz joints, coffeehouses, that sort of thing, which I'm not sure about. But it would fit into an entertainment district.

I was just curious has there been an unofficial “they need to shovel in the ground to meet the 2027 date.”. It looks like, maybe, from what I think, is midfield to 35th street still has chop shops. That remediation should take a year or two. I have no experience so I am just guessing.
