One thing to remember about "Willets Point West" - i.e. the CitiField Parking Lots. Yes, there may need to be some state approval to use that property, but more importantly, it is 100% totally controlled by the Wilpons. Nothing will be built there unless they want it to be built there.

True, but don't forget:

Related and Sterling Equities were not opposed to accelerating the construction of affordable housing. The developers recently proposed allowing a professional soccer club — New York City F.C. — that has been looking for a permanent home to build a soccer stadium next to Citi Field in return for a housing fund.

Well, they are not quite as wealthy as they were at the time, they are poor victims of the oil price collapse lol!
Their relations with Israel are slowly moving in a positive direction, and Trump's policies on the region will likely foster further improvement. (Slowly, and that can change rather quickly, in either direction)
CFG is also no longer owned solely by UAE royals. The Yankees are also partly involved, so that can deflect criticism a bit.

The UAE is not Sweden, but's it's also not Qatar. Ultimately I don't think their involvement will have a significant impact on approval.

No matter how bad UAE's relationship with Israel/Judaism is, let's not forget they still hate Jews less than the Red Bulls ownership

I don't know about that. But ok...

I think let's instead go with: If you asked for the true political options of many sports owners, you'd probably disagree with them. Just because they have money, doesn't mean they are morally superior, or correct in their world views. So instead, let's focus on the sport at hand and agree we can engage with anyone regardless of political beliefs, if we so choose; if it's outside the political spectrum. And that's actually the way it should be in all facets of life.

I was more just referring to Red Bull and their very obvious links to Nazism.

Do agree with your post, though.

I don't see how any of these leaks make the Club or CFG look poor. If you didn't know that UAE was anti-gay, anti-Israel or anti-women, then you're just looking for excuses.

And now we know the 3 sites. Flushing Meadows, Willets and GAL.

This makes CFG look preofessional and organized in their approach. And from a timing perspective, a deal being announced after November 7th certainly makes sense

Hoping that this helps make the club more transparent. Could it be that they were aware of the leak and that's what's led to the club being a bit more transparent with the stadium?
At any rate I'm happier with where we are today than I was a month ago with what we know now.

Patricof said he was being more transparent because they got beaten up over the Hartford fiasco. I don't know if that's a good thing, because they should be more transparent.

That being said, after reading these e-mails, I hope everyone understands just how sensitive these negotiations have been. I do believe they should be more transparent, but I also think they deserve the benefit of the doubt in regards to their negotiating in secret. They seem as if they were scared of pissing off the Mayor and certain City Council Officials.

I wonder if after the stadium is built, they buy-out the Yankees? Yankees make money on increase of club's value, but they don't really bring anything of value to the table any longer since YS won't be needed and they don't have to grease the city's wheels.

I know some folks will get annoyed at me being repetitive, but I have to say again: we have no idea how large the Yankees stake is out whether or not there was any financial consideration given to CFG for it. I personally believe whatever stake they hold was given in exchange for public support and for the rights to the the stadium.

I simply don't believe they own a material portion of this club. 20% had been bandied about, but I've never seen that sourced.

If it's minuscule, it could go either way: cost nothing to buy back vs not losing anything if they leave status quo. If it's a bigger stake, CFG should buy out since the team's value will only appreciate.

The franchise fee was reported at $100 million and the Yankees investment was reportedly $20-25 million.

"NYCFC, which plays at Yankee Stadium, is co-owned by the Yankees and English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City. The two big-spending sides paid a then-league-record $100 million expansion fee in 2013, the Yankees covering a quarter of that and Manchester City the rest."

I was going to say the YES relationship (admittedly we may not bring much in the way of ratings but YES is also not overwhelmed with content), but if we wind up in Queens maybe that goes into jeopardy with SNY in the mix
