I'm still not sure I understand this narrative. Who does this someone who knows someone at ESD work for and why do they want the stadium proposal out there? Because the RFP is going to favor NYCFC and ESD wants to prime the public? I just can't imagine ESD caring enough to get all skullduggerish about it.

I don't want to touch partisan politics but do you remember the story when two of Trump's lawyers were sitting in a restaurant talking over lunch and a WP or NYT reporter was at the next table and the 2 lawyers' conversation became news. That's a variation of what I was trying to describe -- a situation where somebody doesn't plan on making something a news story but does anyway. Something more random than intentional.

Agreed in re the YIMBY guy, but that in itself is useful. We got excited in part based on the implication (coming from an in-the-know RE blogger!) that this was pretty certain. But this interview pretty well shows that he doesn’t have any basis for his assumptions, other than the names of the parties involved. He just got the proposal and threw up the post.

Form his site and curbed it's ok to get excited, and the reputation of the agency I think is that we should look forward to more news coming soon, IMO.

That told us YIMBY hadn't done its homework (to learn that Somerset wasn't next door any more) and that any estimate of the project's likelihood of success was just a line the source wanted to push. The one sort of interesting thing I noticed in the podcast was that the YIMBY blogger went out of his way to single out by name every company even peripherally attached to the NYCFC proposal. I don't know if that's just PR hack instinct or if it suggests he feels indebted to the group.

Did he name where he got the proposal and I missed it, or he’s holding that close to his vest?

PILOTs are a bullshit vehicle used by municipalities and developers to make the claim that taxes are effectively being paid. It's bullshit and there is no better example of that then Yankee Stadium.

Does anyone with any engineering knowledge know if the stadium look like it can be expanded at all?

My general feeling is that with a bit of cantilevering and creative stress management there could be another 10,000 seats in that puppy, but I'm not really sure.

I know about 5-7 people who would rebuy their season tickets if we finally got a stadium, so I'm just hoping that the club realizes that they may have to expand sooner than they think.

The Somerset part isn’t 100% accurate. They only sold the land, but according to the news articles are still involved in the projects somehow (my guess is they are minority partners somehow). I’ll just throw this out there, but one possible reason to sell would be to cover their part of the HFY nut (though I think the more likely reason is the banks are more likely to give Brookfield the loans).
