Uch, it’s been so long. But I remember a 2 story bar that always had US sports on, like NFL. They would stay open odd hours to play them too. I think it was around Picadilly. If I can jog my foggy memory with a few google searches later I’ll let you know. Then again that was like 15 years ago!

My two cents:

The Harlem River Yards project went through the RFEI process with detailed drawings and information about a possible NYCFC stadium at that spot. We knew nothing about it until YIMBY broke the news. At that point the application information was leaked as well. NYCFC didn't even go through focus groups at that time.

The fact that NYCFC is doing focus groups now after this info about the GAL site was published in the Times makes me think that NYCFC is well on its way to making this the spot where a stadium will land. I'm not saying an announcement is happening today or tomorrow, but why would they spend $x on an outside firm when they could just do another email questionnaire?

Designing the stadium is house money once they have a location, land or lease, and government approval. Based on Lion’s comment it seems much more likely that they’re still toying with location and, my speculation, whether something less than transit-optimal will pass with us. If they had a clear way forward for South Bronx or Willets they should be taking it, either one is clearly acceptable so I don’t see what there’d be to discuss.

What was published would not be considered detailed drawings by any stretch. They were presentation renderings. A real set of construction documents to build a stadium would have hundreds/thousands of pages that incorporate information from the following disciplines: Architecture, Civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler, fire protection, landscape, etc. with everything coordinated and taking thousands of manhours. We only saw pretty images that took a fraction of a fraction of time.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the club has an A/E firm already pushing 30% sets for various sites that are the leading locations.

A bit of a ruse. Feigning activity to keep the natives calm.... not that they weren’t listening because if uou’re going to have a focus group, you want to get something out of it regardless of the timing. But I seriously doubt we are anywhere near decision time.
My wife works in marketing and deals with focus groups on a regular basis as part of her “process.” If the club is doing focus groups with NDA’s then they have something proprietary to talk about/get feedback on and it’s not simply a data gathering session of general likes/dislikes.

That’s not to say I know anything about this focus group or what they presented, I was not involved/did not attend nor do I know what was discussed, but I’d wager they discussed information that is very relevant to potential sites or designs.

I believe that. But I also do not believe we are actually any closer to having a location.

We may not be any closer to having a location but that does not necessarily equate to not being closer to having a feasible design. Both processes can function parallel to and independent (to a degree) of each other. That is if CFG is functioning at an optimum level of efficiency.

I absolutely agree. My only point is that until we have a parcel of land, these focus groups are merely an academic exercise.
