Stadium Discussion

Two stick tifo this!

If this is officially announced before a stadium announcement for NYCFC, I would seriously question the effort this organization is putting into finding a suitable spot for our own club. I can't imagine a situation where Katz or Moya choose a USL squad for Willets Point over MLS.

queens want a team badly....i dont think they care if its USL....thing is you gonna lose like half nycfc support cuz i know lots of people that live in queens/ long island. also both politicians love villa so making it easier for him. this was already smelling like embarrassing news for CFG and now its worse. This is really bad for CFG optics. of course it depends where this team will play but remember USL requirements are alot less than that of MLS.

y'all done fucked up CFG

EDIT: wait 25K stadium in willets point ? damn isint that going to take like 10 years due to extra red tape and cleanup approvals?

I've been kind of ignoring the Villa Queens stuff so I'm sure these boards have talked about this by now, but that project's timeline could explain that frustrating quote where Reyna said it would be at least three years till NYCFC gets a USL team.
Yeah, that’s the first thing I thought of. Reyna has pushed the USL timeline from 2019 to 2020 in quotes this year, I think, which would match the DV7 timing. I wonder what to make of the reporting that NYCFC isn’t involved? It seems wild that we wouldn’t be, in some way. Maybe we’re staying out of the stadium part but will have an affiliation agreement.

Got to be. If Villa succeeds in putting a USL team in New York and it's not affiliated with NYCFC, we would have to persuade the league to add a fourth team between Harrison and Hartford for our reserves or else keep shipping players across the country. That doesn't work for kids who are still in high school, which is the biggest reason we need a USL team in the first place.

This seems most likely. It wouldn’t make much sense at all to not have at least some play there. I really do think too that since this seems to be this far along, there must be more substance to the GAL site or Harlem river yards than we even give it credit for.

report says the team will play temporary home before the stadium. for all we know they play in long island first

Doubt that would make much difference for USL's calculus re how many teams the New York metro area can support.

I’m really not convinced we will ever have a USL side. And if the rumors are true about MLS starting a U19 league for Academy kids, I’m not convinced that we will actually need a USL side either.

im not concerned or worried about USL here, to me is the whole stadium situation, like i said is gonna look real bad if they pull it off AND its 25K stadium. i do think even more people will be lost from nycfc ST numbers and even attendance will suffer.

Why would this make a difference in needing a USL team when there is already a league for that age group?

If there is a competent, competitive league solely for your best Academy players and young draftees, why invest the money to run a USL side that will lose $2-3 million a year?
