Just because I love you.
The reason that Mets attendance sucks unless they are in first place is that the new Shea is not easy to get to.
The Bronx is much easier to get to for most of the 15 million people within 50 miles of midtown.
You have a source for that or just intuition? Or maybe excluding drivers? I think it’s wrong. Access to Citi Field for the 8 million people who live on Long Island is significantly better than YS.

A little more than half as many people live in Manhattan, the Bronx, Westchester and Fairfield and for many Westchester, and Fairfield people, Flushing is a push

I was wrong there are 21 million people in the metro area not 15 million. That means 13 million outside of Long Island.
I am not sure what % of the fan base is from where.
I know there is little room for growth on Long Island as far as space to build, and Nassau has one of the older median average ages in the area. Long Island is nice so people are aging in place. People take their kids to games. LIRR might be the busiest RR in the country but 3 lines go through the Bronx.
Soccer is in a strange middle ground as far as the number of games they play.
The Yankees always threatened to move to the meadowlands but its not easy to get to for 81 games, so that was always an empty threat.
For football people are willing to put up with the hassle for 8 games.
Both the Nets and the Devils died there because people were not going to put up with the hassle 41 times a year.
For 13 million people in the area it is far harder to get to WP than the bronx.
The last time I took the train to Shea was for a stones concert, but I think its more difficult to reach from midtown than Yankee stadium, so it may have something to do with corporate sales.
I feel that if the Island would work we would already be breaking ground at a race track

I also forgot that, despite your experience, yankee stadium and citi and largely a push for Manhattan residents.

“The Island” suggests that Citi Fied is a similar spot to Belmont, Roosevelt or Aqueduct, which is not a fair assertion. aqueduct is literally in the middle of nowhere, even inconvenient for most people in Queens despite being in Queens. Belmont has limited railroad service, zero subway service and, like Roosevelt, is not in the City. Each is significantly harder and more time-consuming to get to for fans than WP.

Also, let’s not forget that the Mets sucked and still drew 27k a game in ‘18, north of 30k in ‘17, 34k in’16 and nearly 50k as recently as 2008, when they were tops in the NL (the year of the choke and last year in Shea). If the Mets have an attendance problem relative to other teams, it isn't the location's fault. Blame fairweather fans.

Also your 13 million number includes 5 million people in Staten Island and northern jersey and many others in outer counties for which neither destination is convenient .

I don't think anything that's happened at the Meadowlands or Nassau Coliseum is relevant to the WP site.

I believe that facts show your intuition is off on this one.

I disagree

If all else fails, maybe we can convince State of New Jersey to rename Meadowlands to New York City, New Jersey and build a stadium there, Sporting Kansas City style. ;)
That’d be one hell of a gerrymandered land grab

Both stadiums would be right next to a racetrack. One for cars, another for horses.

its a baseball stadium ( an expensive one at that) with shitty views in a city where we are really picky with stuff. VS a football stadium that has better views and has partnership with a college that can get more people in.

of course they will do better just for the simple fact of the venue and their partnership with a university.

i mean the closest thing nycfc could of done maybe is partner with columbia university and try to modify their stadium for our use. and have students sections etc. and then im sure peoeple will still say in nyc what a shitty place to have games in because thats how new yorkers are.

its two cities different cultures, we are limited with YS. just because something works in one city doesnt automatically mean it will work here. new york has so many segments you cant have one plan like you can have in a cincy. and even sports wise the city will never be united. there is almost two of every sport.

they roll the dice with their plan. its shitty, but the venue dont help.
I go to City College of NY, we are almost 45% Hispanic and almost 90% from foreign countries where "soccer" is big. Only 2 subway stops away from Yankee Stadium. I think a partnership with my university would bring a ton of traffic to their games
