If other rumors be true, they claim 2023 opener which seems a bit quick but still possible? I just don't want a DC situation. I think most supporters, if a stadium is announced, will be happy to wait an extra year if the stadium is made high-quality.

I dunno..... I’d have no problem with a back-side heavy set of home matches that takes advantage of the warm weather months while jettisoning spring matches in snow/freezing temps.

Even if I can’t attend all of the matches, if ever there was going to be a good resale market, it’d be the first year in the stadium with 80deg temps.

oh - I didn't mean the late part of the season, I'd be happy for that. I was more referring to the 'get this stadium out quickly even though it's highly under-quality and things are duct-taped together' aspect of it

I wouldn't say it's a slam dunk that our home won't have a retractable roof. I'm not saying it will, just saying it's possible.

Shortly after my second stadium article, I spoke with Cary Goodman of 161 St BID and we talked a little bit about the survey he administered and the renderings in the article.

In his survey, he asked local residents "If a stadium were built on River Avenue should it have a dome to enable year-round use?". 76% of respondents answered "yes".

When we spoke, he almost seemed kinda ticked that the renderings we included did not show a roof, as he kind of looked at it as though they weren't even considering the survey he put together and the local communities response. But the renderings were dated in 2018, well before his survey, and when I explained that to him, he understood.

All that to say, I have no idea whether the stadium will or will not have a roof. I'm just saying, it's not a for sure thing either way. It could possibly end up being a sticking point for the local community.

I'm sure they could host concerts or football games there. A specific example Cary brought up to me is having a concert there and perhaps a lot more folks from Westchester and upstate would be more willing to MetroNorth to the Bronx, rather than all the way into the city to the Garden.

But enhancing revenue I don't think is what is all on their minds, think high school events, social sports in the winter, other local community events, etc.

Tagging onto what Soup said, probably have some High school events (local football and/or soccer teams championships/playoffs). Maybe have a college showdown between Fordham and St. John's (and a Manhattan, Brooklyn, and SI college), battle of the boroughs type shit.

I wonder, for example, if the PSAL football championships would move from Yankee Stadium to David Villa Park at Etihad Stadium.

I would think the cost of a retractable roof would make that untenable. There's plenty of run you can get out of a stadium when it's in use from March-November, though. Concerts, high school sports, other random events, I would bet they could get at least 15-20 other events a year in addition to the 17 home games we have.

College Basketball, Concerts , Kids events (disney etc), Wrestling, XFL games, Trade shows , International soccer games

Do the Yankees have an indoor practice facility anywhere? Because if not, I guarantee (ok, I really can’t) that if our stadium has a roof, and the Yankees are still partial owners, that there will be baseball practice held there when the weather would normally keep them from turning out at YS.

I guess I was a little light on saying only an extra 15-20 events. Surely by this list you're looking at another 30-40 pro soccer games, then more events on top of that.

Do the Yankees have an indoor practice facility anywhere? Because if not, I guarantee (ok, I really can’t) that if our stadium has a roof, and the Yankees are still partial owners, that there will be baseball practice held there when the weather would normally keep them from turning out at YS.

They have indoor batting cages behind the dugout, but baseball teams virtually never hold practices aside from pregame batting practice.

I would HATE a dome/retractable roof stadium. Just keep the overhang wide enough so all seats are covered

That's the big question, how much would a retractable roof cost and would it be worth it?

I have no idea. But again, if that really ends up being a sticking point, they may have to just pony up. But it's also worth noting that these survey questions were posed without any cost context, or anything else. It's easy to just answer "yes" it should.

I think the real question is, "Would you allow a stadium at that site without a roof?" as opposed to "IF there's a stadium, SHOULD it have a roof?" Make it a bit more definitive as to what's really a deal-breaker or not.
