Frankly, this is one of the things that really impresses me about professional soccer players. So many of them learn 1 or more new languages in their 20s. I tried to do that. Worked at it for years. Total fucking failure.

If I could have all the hours I've wasted on language learning back......I don't know but it was lots.

I know it helps a bunch to be living in an area where it's the primary language, but it sure isn't easy. I know plenty of Spanish, Polish and Italian retired folks around me who have lived their entire adult lives here and can still barely order a pizza in english.
