Usl Pro Rebranded To Usl

Not sure how I feel about the new logo yet - better than the old one, but feels like it would have been cooler when Umbros were really in style

I honestly like it a lot. USL has come such a long way in a real short amount of time. Fans of NASL teams are starting to get a little worried...

It doesn't mean anything to the NASL until USL starts stealing market share or clubs. So far no NASL team has defected and both league have won the race to some cities (NASL won San Antonio, but USL won OKC and Tulsa).

D2 status isn't that big of a deal in the USA.

NASL was planning on going to Tulsa?

Are they stupid? Its hilarious to me that they want to take on MLS but target cities like Tulsa or even Oklahoma City.

Why not San Francisco? San Diego? Los Angeles?

Also, I think they could put competing clubs with MLS in cities like Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

Though, finding investors is probably getting harder and harder as USL looks to be less financially risky.

And how many deep pocketed investors are going to go into markets with MLS teams already there?

The way MLS operates really pisses off some of the soccer traditionalists in this country. They would jump at the chance to support an "independent club" even if the league was worse. Hell, some might be attracted by the very fact that there is less money and less flash.

Furthermore, cities like Chicacgo and Dallas don't exactly bleed MLS thanks to their ownerships and their stadiums being way out in the suburbs of the city. If an NASL owner could find a better situation closer to downtown in either city, they'd get a boost for being the "real" Chicago/Dallas team and an independent club and would likely attract the traditionalists of the city more than the Fire or FC Dallas could.

Lastly, in cities like Toronto/LA/NY and Chicago they're big enough to support 2 teams. Seattle seems to be soccer crazy enough to support 2 teams as well.

It's still America. We're still really a big league country. Now if soccer was popular enough that something like college and high school soccer was a big deal, then I wouldn't be as skeptical as I am.

NASL will be dead in less than 10 years anyway. They're irrelevant to the overall big picture of soccer in America. USL will become more and more stable thanks to their partnership with MLS. While NASL will be left out to dry as their top teams will merge into MLS and the rest will slowly fold or jump ship to USL.
