USMNT Talk

Sign of the times that the day after a 5-1 handling of Uruguay in the lead up to World Cup there isn't a single post here, and that in a match where our #1 was between the sticks.

Anyway, boys had their finishing boots on last night.

To complete the picture, Claudio had 8 goals for country - yes, Gio just passed his dad - and, Gregg had zero goals (famously denied at the 2002 World Cup by a Torsten Frings handball).

It was a wierd match. Our B team played exceptionally will and overshot their xG by a lot, but the performance from Uruguay really hints at problems in the lockerroom. Bielsa tends to run players to the ground and wear out his welcome, and that would seem to be the case. If there is one thing that characterizes Uruguay is never giving up, and they gave up big time last night. Outside of Betancur's red card tackle, they weren't even fouling all that much. They seemed more resigned than frustrated. That said, the vibes inside the USMNT are so good now, and it really seems Poch will have a hard time cutting guys out of his 26 men roster next year.

I know he's had his controversies, and it comes at the expense of defense, but it feels like the offense of the USMNT always flows better when Dest is at RB. Even when he's not involved much, having a guy who is a dynamic threat out wide pushing upfield really spreads things out and creates space for the offense to flow.
