World Cup 2026

Just got my Visa presale email from FIFA. Window opens for me on Thursday morning.

I have purchased World Cup tickets.

My window opened at 11. At this stage in this pre-sale, all of the Cat 3 and 4 tickets were gone, and the other categories were several times more expensive - especially in MetLife, which carries the highest prices outside of games in which the host teams play.

It was tricky getting into the queue for this window. There is a link in the e-mail that FIFA sends, but clicking that only led to an error message. You actually have to go to FIFA's World Cup website, log in and then go to the ticket page. If you are in your lottery window, that page will have a link to the pre-sale.

You can buy up to 40 tickets, with a maximum of 4 tickets for any single game. There is no limit to how many times you can go back and purchase, so long as it is within your window. I bought tickets for 4 different games, 3 in New Jersey and 1 in Philadelphia. I don't plan to attend that many, but this will give me flexibility, and I am hopeful I can unload the others at cost.

So, you got any extras? Especially for a fellow SEC alum?

In case anyone is wondering about supply... someone I work with offered to get me tickets after winning the lottery. As of yesterday afternoon the only available Metlife games are group stage Cat. 2.

Since this Visa presale only released 15% of all tickets available I'm going to take my chances on the next presale at the end of October. Really hoping for a knockout round so I have better chances at getting of seeing quality teams. I really don't want to have spent $500 and get stuck with Suriname vs England in a 9-0 blow out. I'm willing to travel so fingers crossed... but if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck so we shall see.

I think waiting for future pre-sales is not a bad idea, especially if you want to get lower category tickets.

I think I'm waiting until closer to game-time and hoping secondary market prices crater. These FIFA prices are extortionate.

Same here. I can't justify spending $2K+ for my family of 4 to go to a group stage game. At this price point, it's like choosing between a 2-hour soccer match or a decent vacation somewhere.

Additionally, it's unfortunate to profit from the current political chaos in the country, but if things continue, one has to wonder if many international fans will opt for the games in Mexico and Canada over the matches in the US, potentially driving down second-market pricing.

Okay. There should be plenty of opportunities after this.

It would be good to meet face to face at some point. Are you going to the Third Rail Tailgate?

We are in 307.

Yeah I think the immigration situation will cause far fewer international fans to come, especially from Latin American countries. These ticket prices are not sustainable. It's like concerts that charge the premium tickets, but cut prices day-of when they haven't sold. I'm hoping FIFA will be forced to do the same.
