Jorge Teixeira Deal Finalized?

I thought TAM could bring a DP player to zero? He makes 800k, but the cap hit is zero?
On further look, I think you're right. I had read the rule to mean you can only take someone over budget down to budget max. But now I think you're right. The player has to be over budget, but as long as he is you can bring him as low as your TAM will cover.

As I posted in the Matarrita thread, you can actually only buy a player down to $150,000 using TAM.

And just because this is MLS, nothing is that simple. The $150 language in that official MLS article is not in the official MLS roster rules regarding TAM:
http://pressbox.mlssoccer.com/content/roster-rules-and-regulations
That page does provide that "Clubs have the option of “buying down” the budget charge of a Designated Player with allocation money. The reduced charge may not be less than $150,000."
There is no similar provision in the TAM section.

I don't know what this means. I doubt even that "rule" page is official, so the article you found could be right, or this "rule" page could be.

Yup, I checked there first. But that's last year's rules - for example it still has 2015's salary cap and maximum budget charge. It hasn't been updated for the new TAM at all. So the article trumps it.

He is coming. Only a matter of time btw and waiting for deal to finalize. We spoke as recently as last week and his intention is to play here.
Can we get a scouting report? I assume the best case is that he partners Mena. I am very optimistic about Mena based in his late season performance, but his style of playing on the front foot and coming out aggressively does lend itself to needing a partner who is a bit more disciplined. I think Mena can also be a bit rough on the ball, so a player with some ball skills would be helpful as an alternative to Pirlo as we try to build from the back.

Well, I can tell you that he plays with passion like most Portuguese CBs (Carvalho, Bruno Alves, Pepe, Fernando Couto if you remember him). He does not back down from an attacking player and will stand behind his team and any teammate. Jorge is a product of the famous Sporting academy (same as Cristiano, Luis Figo, Nani, Eric Dier, Quaresma, Future etc...). I remember the first time I saw him play was in 2007. I watched him take CD Fatima from the Portuguese second division and put FC Porto strikers in his back pocket as they eliminated Porto from the League Cup. He has been putting strikers in his pocket since. I'm a bit biased obviously. He is strong and smart but also aggressive.

He is a warrior. I call him TeixeiRock!

And yes he has ball skill. He has played the holding mid before.

Not all the way to zero. There is a floor - $150K.

Still, I think his point was that Cameron makes too much for TAM to be used. The player's salary can't be more than $1 million.
