No doubt, Saunders incompetence was highlighted. He's really, really, really bad. And I am not exaggerating. He's literally the worst keeper in the league by a long shot.

As for the rest of the team, what a fucking game. I love every one of you. It was beautiful. TMac was himself around the box.

BAJ was a badass. And mumsy was there to see it.

Taylor did a great job.

And FF was FF. How in the fuck does someone score statistically unlikely goals for 15 years? It's shocking, and I'm glad he's doing it for us these days. Fucker still should have been here before, but maybe he at least helped us ditch Kreis (see? I can be positive).

All around the most awesome time I've had at the stadium. Just fucking incredible.

And Chanot looks to be the real deal, but don't shit on Mena. Boy had some ballsy tackles in dangerous spots. He's clinical one on one.

Imagine how dangerous our lineup could be with just a semi-competent keeper instead of Saunders.

And Zac MacMath sits on the bench for COL the rest of the year. In addition to being better than Saunders, he is what, 6 or 7 years younger?

Throw Shelton and whatever GAM/TAM you have to COL to get it done.

I think 10 years, actually.

I've been on that boat since the Howard signing. Also allows us to dump lurch and gain an international spot. I hope MacMath is getting pissed watching the team lose after benching him and forces his way out onto a winning team that needs a keeper. I wonder who fits that description...

No . My NYC rosters guys are Villa, RJ, and Harrison, so Jack was the only benefit I gained from this. And really, 17 is a poor fantasy score for someone who had a hat trick. You get 5 per goal plus 2 for playing 60+ and he didn't earn anything above that. His Shots point was negated by his Yellow, and he got no attacking bonus and no defending bonus for doing all the things a mid should do (cue T Tom in Fairfield CT ).

I'll have to look at the stats, but he seemed to have a pretty good game overall for us.

I'll just say that was beautiful rain.

There are some summer days where the temperature is just right for the rain to feel perfectly refreshing. People who stayed away because of the weather, big mistake. Huge.

I think I'll go continue to bask in the glory of this fine day ...

Some of us were sick though...

(On the other hand, the last game I had to miss due to illness was the Historic Home Opener - so maybe I can take one for the team and get sick again next time we need a big win?)

The funniest part of the Mac Howard confrontation was how Mac heckled him after the goal shortly thereafter. I liked the spunk.
I just watched this. It really was great. He just slow walked by, with one eye on Howard and another on the ref: "I'm just walking. Not causin' trouble. No big thing. Juuuuuuuust walking."

I have a strange, strange feeling we're going to do really, really, really well in this game and win like 5-0 or something. I don't know. It just came to me seeing the camera cut to de Blasio in the audience during the DNC. Then I immediately verbally booed out loud, alone in a room, thinking about his administration and our stadium woes.

Also, where the hell is Dante during our matches this summer? Has his Yale education turned him into a Revs fan?

So, let me tell you about this strange, strange day...

I went to the game with my father. I've taken him to a few games and he has enjoyed them, mostly because I have to explain a lot about the team and the sport to him. But over time he's been picking up more and more. He used to watch me play weekends on the West Side Soccer league, but that was a while ago. And I played keeper so there wasn't much he needed to know about the game. He called to pick me up when I was in the shower with shampoo in my hair. Yes, I kept my phone in the bathroom. I rush to finish my shower, dry myself off, put on my jersey, bring my rain jacket and am out the door. As I hit the button the elevator, I realize I forgot my scarf. I run back inside to get it and head downstairs.

We get the Yankee Stadium parking garages and realize we parked on the top level when we usually park on the bottom. So it takes about 2 minutes driving through the garage to get downstairs. We're early but we wait outside by the Legends gate about 20-30 minutes before they let us in.

What are they serving at Legends? Beef goulash. The first time I've ever seen them serve this before as the beef option at the carving station. It's not bad, it's just strange. Also had a shitload of king crab legs. And vanilla, chocolate chip, and cone gelato. Again, strange.

At the end of the warm up, I get a high five with Pirlo. Usually it's Villa, Mata, or RJ, but rarely or never Pirlo. I'm overcome with a strange feeling.

For the first 20 minutes I'm thinking let's go for a 0-0 draw. Points, or a point is a point. Then it picks up and we start doing well. I dropped Azira on my fantasy team and he picks up two yellows. I started Howard and Sjoberg and I also didn't captain Lampard or Harrison, fuck me. Today was a great team effort. Sure Diego Martinez could have done better on those wide balls forward. Sure Tommy Mac should have scored one of this long range goals. But it was a great team effort for today's win.

What the hell happened with the lights and sounds and weather after Frank scored? A lighting warning? Sure, it was Frank Lampard raining down goals on Colorado.

Tim Howard, Secretary of Defense, one of the most name recognized American soccer players gets a booed every time he touches the ball after a quagmire with Tommy Mac. Strange.

Frank Lampard captains the team and scores a hat trick. Strange. (Super Frank Lampard for MLS Comeback Player of the Year).

After the weather delay, 98% of people in the pitch side seats stay inside. I'm down there with 2-3 other people getting loud. Everyone, even the refs, are more friendly after it rains. I joke with the sideline official that he needs cleats with longer spikes, metal ones. He's actually talkative.

The security guard tells me that we're a better team without David Villa. He explains Montreal is better without Drogba and the Red Bulls were better without Henry. We're a team of average players and when you have a Villa up top, they need to feed him the ball. Today we didn't need to feed Villa, we just needed to score goals. And we scored 5 of them. (Called it!).

After halftime, everyone trickles back to their seats around the 50 minute but it's definitely a fun and friendly feeling. If you're going to sit outside in the rain, you better be happy and expecting a good time. Also, first time I had a beer (actually it was more like 1.5 beers) at an NYCFC game.

The game ends, the bench players come over, I think I said "love you" to Mix though it wasn't audible. I think he said "thank you." Strange.

Great write up, and great pic! Can you tell us anything about the Jesse Marsch shirt worn by the fan on the left?

It really was a perfect day. Drinks with Paul, Leilani and soup, racing down to Ktown for bbq with the wife. Lots of barely hanging on, left my fly open for 130 blocks, and I don't give a fuck.

Jongro and 5-1. Nothing else matters.

Oh, and this seals it. Sleep well boys and girls.

That might have been the most fun home game in club history.

How exciting is it to support this team and their playoff push knowing that we're capable of absolutely destroying the side that on paper is the best in the league? This autumn is going to be fun.
