Unless you’re Gyasi Zardes, you’re kind of a known quantity by then in soccer.

lol its not like hes 30 and we paying fee for him. he plays in romania and not many pay attention to it but other teams in europe allegedly ( like us allegedly) want him too so im sure they see something in him as well. its still high fee though but not something totally bad if we basing it on age. i still think zardes is good MLS player and perhaps backup in NT but not good enough for top level in europe despite his rumors.

but i see the trends here from some of your other past dislikes, we get medina who was like 3 years younger, you consider a bad signing, we get maxi who was 29 when we got him, you thought it was a bad signing. so you only want over 30 year olds?

I would like to see us bring in sure things. I was wrong on Maxi. I still think I’m right in Medina.

I’d rather us pay someone $4 million a year on a free transfer than $8 million on a transfer if it’s a flyer.

fair and even because he plays in romania is fair point for doubt ( even though he has good record scoring goals) just that age on its own was not a point of concern for me.

nothing is sure thing though, but the only thing for me here is the high transfer fee. if this was 4M again then id do it i take the risk, need those goals.

Age is less of an issue than league of origin to me, I don't know much about the Romanian league but I can't think of a DP in the MLS that came from a lower level league like Romania or Paraguay like Medina that has been a high quality signing. There are examples of players that struggled to break into top tier leagues that then came here and thrived (Giovinco, Martinez, Maxi) but at least those guys had the talent to be recognized and be given a shot. It's possible to roll the dice an pluck a gem but why take that level of risk when you can target guys coming from proven leagues such as Argentina like Valari, Piatti, or Almiron, or Serie A for guys like the ones listed above. Nothing against this guy and I hope he works out if we sign him but it just seems like we could lower our risk a bit by targeting players that have proven themselves themselves a bit in higher caliber leagues.

thats fine, and as i replied to him, this is is something i see as a concern and fair point, but not age on its own.

Alexandru could be a TAM player. $6mm transfer fee on 5 year deal. $300k salary. That’s $1.5mm per annum. TAM eligible. (Must earn between $530k-$1.53mm pa, including amortized transfer fee).

I’d be just fine with him as a TAM player.

I will add my knowledge of different leagues is limited but I'd also hope they try to target players that have played in leagues with similar levels of physicality and game speed to MLS. We've had players that showed up and seemed completely unfazed by the physicality of the league, the way it's reffed and the level of contact (Bravo, Castellanos, Callens, Ring, Tinnerholm..) and others that seem completely overwhelmed by it and either take a long time to adjust or never adjust (Mata, Medina, Carmago, Mendoza...). I'm sure it's also player specific but it does seem like some guys are used to it and other struggle and I'd hope the scouting department had ways to project/account for that.

i thought fee was 8M?

I can't help but think that as goes Medina, so goes NYCFC in 2019. If we see a Maxi like 2nd-year progression, we're in great shape, if we don't, we're a disaster. Taty to a lesser extent.

I think Taty is the more skilled and better suited player for MLS. I half suspect he’s the more important piece for us.

My concern is whether Isi can either maintain his insane production rate over similar playing time or maybe play closer to full time and score at maybe 75% of his rate in 2018.

I was presuming him to be our most important piece, frankly. And I also project we will suck because Dome tends to not let him get into positions to score.

Putting my tinfoil hat yet again. If we're really trying to sign him and he's a bust then the suits get confirmation bias that spending that much money is not going to work and we're stuck paying 300k to one of Domè's former players or some guy on a free out of the Transylvanian first division. Of course spending that money on a risky transfer was always part of the plan.

Isi actually had more shots per 96 under Torrent than Vieira (2.30 to 1.83) at a higher xG per shot (0.12 to 0.10), he just couldn't sustain his ridiculous conversion rate.

Just because a team asks for 8 doesn't mean they sell for 8. It's called bargaining. One person says 6, the other says 8, and they settle for 6.5

thats fine, just not sure where the 6.5 came since he was already calculating the TAM. since its all the rumors say they want 8. we wont know what final number until it actually happens of course.

Yeah, I just settled for a realistic number that would make sense. I can see it ending up between 6-7, but I don't realistically see us trying for more than 7.
