NYCFC will take part in rivalry week as we take on the Jerseys Boys.

Match day
Saturday 1:30 Kickoff
Broadcast on FOX, WQBU and Online streaming via WFAN

They mentioned during the Seattle game Maxi might be out a few weeks. We may not have him available for this one. I wouldn't mind seeing the same midfield.
Herrera, Ring and Harrison.
Not too big on TMac, didn't do much against Seattle. I get the conditions weren't favorable but seeing Camargo in for him or Lewis would be better.

Unless things change, RB is coming into the game likely on a high scoring in 87th minute with an offside BWP.

Edit: BWP scores again in 92min so moot point.

Couple of items:

-Marsch flew off to Poland to continue his UEFA coaching license, back for the game. Smells of a little bit of arrogance to me that he'd leave before the first derby of the year. That said, RBNJ owns NYCFC so until things change, he can do whatever he wants.

-Will be interesting to see how NYCFC plays the midfield 3 since I think Maxi is out. Do you start Pirlo in his regista role and put Ring and Herrera along side him (play Ring and Yangkee in the Marchisio/Vidal roles) or do you play the same midfield 3? Will be telling if Pirlo really is Diskeruded or will get a spot back.

I think their Austrian coach was just poached, so the haste for the coaching license may have a real reason. Or possibly also a meeting re Austria while in Poland.

I actually think Pirlo won't play next week and it's not proof he got Mixed.

I personally think he has been Mixed. I just don't think that's the reason he'll sit against RBNJ, so it can't be dispositive proof of it.

I get the gist context but what exactly happened to Mix?

Yeah, if Pirlo doesn't play it's not proof that he has put on a Mix hat. You need your most athletic MF against RBNJ's pressing, which means that Pirlo could be a liability - so you might not want to play him anyway. I wouldn't play Tommy Mac/Ucubed because he isn't athletic either. Put Harrison in the MF and start Lewis. Run them out of the building.

I didn't think Harrison looked that great as the No. 10, but I'd try that again. I liked Ring-Herrera-Harrison in the midfield. They won, the midfield was really solid, I'd go back to that again if Maxi is out.

I like that too. Problem is if you put a front six of Harrison-Ring-Yangel and Wallace-Villa-TMac one of those guys doesn't fit. No comment on who.

I actually think you need your best passing midfielder against that press. A guy who is still world class at reading the game and moving the ball.

The big issue with Pirlo has been his defensive ability, particularly against teams with speed and athleticism in the midfield. I don't think that describes the Red Fools, for all their many strengths.

You're kidding, right? Just go look at his player thread for a summary. Or any other thread from last year. Or half of this year's.

His thread is gone. Past articles don't provide much insight other than "Mix sucks, has no place and is leaving (at the time they were written)." Searching and sifting through other threads here to pick out nuggets is terribly ineffective.

More than anything, I'm trying to understand why some claim Pirlo's situation may be different from Mix's. On the surface, they look identical.

Check out former players section. Bottom line, I don't think you understand what you're asking for here. If it's going to be rehashed, it should be done there under strict quarantine, imo. Otherwise, every thread will become infected.

Fair enough. Lesson learned.

Could you play Pirlo as the 10? Much like how NJRB played Henry towards the end

Dude, despite the many, widely scattered posts, it's not complicated. It takes 30 seconds to summarize, largely because we don't really know the whole story.

Mix was signed for a lot of money and was a regular on the USMNT. Seemed a key piece for us. In the first year under Kreis, he went from a regular starter to a bench player behind seemingly less talented players (Midas, can we at least get a Grabavoy rant?).

As 2016 started Vieira put him back in the starting XI, and he seemed to do well, but again fell out of the starting lineup. Before long, he wasn't even making the 18. Week after week, he was nowhere near the pitch while players who were journeymen at best were getting playing time. The whole time Mix was, at least publicly, a model citizen, showing up for autograph sessions, training hard, saying the right things in public - even as it became clear he would never play for us again.

Speculation was rampant about whether Vieira simply rated him very low or whether there was some behind the scenes issue that put him permanently in Chateau Bow Wow.

What was clear is that for the last half of 2016, he was out. He wasn't going to see the pitch even if our only other alternative was to run out a golden retriever in cleats. The question from some is whether that's where Pirlo has found himself (which I think highly unlikely, but the lack of clarity and seeming lack of logic to the Mix situation means speculation is hardly unwarranted).
