NYCFC to Play at NJ Red Bulls in U.S. Open Cup

All our internationals should go punch someone in the face next match they play for their country. I'll even accept a bite.

I think this is a very legit rivalry. Not sure there's a team in sports I hate more. One of the big aspects of a local rivalry is actually knowing people who support the other team and knowing your going to get the piss taken out of you if you lose to them. Outside of these boars, IRL, I definitely know more of THEM than I do of us. If I post anything related to NYC on social media I can expect some banter. That's what makes losing to them so hard and beating them extra sweet.

Also my experiences at the two derby matches I've been to. Not talking about the fact we lost them both, though that doesn't help. From the smug Energy drink supporter on the train telling a small group of us that City don't have any hardcore supporters because we're too new and the Man City lite etc. jabs to the pack of Jersey supporters gathered across from stadium near the playing field across the street. Must have been a couple hundred of them gathered while a couple dozen of us drifted past at time from arriving on the trains. Them singing and chanting and goading towards us while they had us outnumbered 20 to 1.

Then there's the things I didn't experience directly but heard about. First derby at the stadium a large group of them in the tier above a bunch of our fans pouring beer down on them. The fights etc.

To say its not a rivalry is crazy. Forget the fan, Red Bull players actively play this game harder than any other. They have a chip on their shoulder about how quickly we took over in fans, media, Q Rating, etc.. We have defectors from their club. Their fans hate that we never cared about them. I'm sure they think "Gee, 25,000 people who enjoy soccer, imagine if they just supported us from the get go." It would piss me off too.

Whatever man, I just think it's silly that we've existed for like 10 minutes and already have a hated rival just because they play across the river. No one cared about the red bulls for 20 years but now that we support this team that just joined the league we have to hate them with a passion because they don't like us and banter. Orlando doesn't like us either, guess they're our rivals as well. Actually the whole league hates us because we play in a baseball stadium and we're owned by City Football Group which owns Manchester City. Everyone is our rival!

Never understood the arguments about it being artificial. It's not as if the Red Bulls spontaneously generated out of some mystical football ether at the dawn of time. They're an energy-drink branding vehicle formed 20 years ago, there are Mogwai songs longer than that. Forgive me for not being awed by the titanic weight of their storied history.

I do think however that if the Red Bull was still the MetroStars or a different name under original ownership and not Red Bull GmbH, it would be less of a rivalry.

So at what point have we existed long enough to have a "Real rival" ? By that logic have we existed long enough to be "Real fans"? No offense but the line of reasoning your using sounds very similar to that used by condescending Jersey supporters against us.
The difference is I don't believe the definition of a rivalry is subjective. For me, six regular season matches doesn't make a rivalry.

When do tickets go on sale? Where do you get them?

I keep checking the Red Bulls website daily. They don't even have the game listed on their "all competitions" schedule yet. I'm assuming they're trying to figure out all the logistics that comes with hosting an event before they release tickets.

On the one hand I hate the PATH trek to dirty Harrison but on the other hand this is a pretty good chance to outnumber their fans in their own building.
Anyone know if USOC matches split the gate between host and visitor? Not giving the whole price to RB might put me over the top
