#MLSisBack - July 14 - Orlando (Postgame)

So I just looked at the last Euros, and the last two Women's World Cups -- two teams in each tournament with three points advanced. Other teams with 3 points did not advance, but it is possible to get out of this group on three points. We'll have to beat Miami by three goals, most likely, to even have the slightest chance. Unlikely, but possible.

That said, this was woeful. It looked like the 3-in-the-back system we played at the start, no one knew what their responsibilities were. Once we went back to four in the back it was better, but the defending in that first 30 minutes was absolutely abysmal. Never seen us play so poorly on the back end since 2015. Sands had a howler, it's no surprise he was the one who moved up into midfield.

Tactically, I have no idea what they were trying to achieve. Still not seeing nearly enough of the one-two passing that we did so well last year to open up space. I don't even think this loss is on Maxi's absence -- it's almost like Deila is trying to avoid using our No. 10 and wants our fullbacks to be the prime offensive creators. It's so bizarre. We have all this talent in the middle and up front, and it's like we're avoiding it.

Mitrita looked good in his run-out, he kind of changed the game for us. Isi also looked good. But not much good to take from this one. For a while it looked like the team just doesn't want to be there anymore.

Ok so I try to watch the replay after I’m sure the match is over on The ESPN Fire App and all I get are spoilers. WTF is wrong with these people? Epic fucking fail. Fox manages to get replays up right away with no spoilers. Apparently Medina hit a cracker. That’s all I need to know because as goes Medina so goes NYCFC — in reverse.

I don’t mind my team sucking. I do mind being forced to know they sucked before I have a chance to see the suckitude for myself. Yo MLS/ESPN/NYCFC , that’s a pretty basic attribute of sports.

You're tilting at the wrong windmill. It was on TUDN and Twitter, not ESPN

Oh wait, it was on TUDN and not ESPN. My fault for not intuiting that after they announced ESPN as the tournament home. MLS’s fault for hiding the product. Why do they bother to hold the matches if they are just going to play a shell game with them. FFS I’m ot a casual fan. This should not be so hard.

Mitrita did look good - and tried to use Heber. Isi, though, hard disagree. He looked to push horizontally and shoot every time. Once Orlando realized he would never pass they just followed him across the box.

Sands may have a bright future but he was terrible tonight. Every cross field pass sailed into the seats, and he looked aimless on the second goal.

Medina with a goal. Medina with a whiff on a sitter. Seems appropriate.

It is true that the team had 5 points after 6 games last year and righted the ship. However, that was with a coach in his second year and with a full season schedule. If the season does actually continue after this tournament - and I am skeptical - it could be a short season with fewer games and more teams in the East. There isn't the same margin of error.

Have to beat Miami. If not, play Haak and Gray for experience and Mata and Medina to get offers (any offers).

(p.s. Intern, please find a few DP 10's to replace Maxi and Medina.)

Oh, and one more thing. Can we all agree that Univision needs to either be dropped as a partner, or MLS needs to work with them to find broadcasters who will even do the least amount of prep to call a game properly? These Univision broadcasters are an absolute joke, and MLS looks like the most minor of leagues when a national TV broadcast has guys like that on a broadcast. It is the worst national TV broadcast of any major sport in this country.

It’s doubly frustrating when your team is losing and the announcers are rooting for the other team.

You are right. I failed to follow the bread crumb trail. Is there a replay? And Twitter? Seriously?
I guess I should check the team app, which still has the regular season matches on the schedule, for the real story. Is the Saturday night Miami match going to be on TikTok, or Snapchat?

I must have been watching a different game. The Mitrita I saw looked pretty similar to the Mitrita of last year... dude just isn’t DP caliber and still seems to run into a wall On his right most the time. He made some okay passes but I can’t get too excited about his late game appearance.

Guys we started this match with 6 defenders. I can’t say I’ve ever seen that before. 3 Cb’s and 3 Fb’s. The initial subs were fine but they only put us back into the shape we should have started with 4-4-2. Then we waited till the 85th minute to sub on GMS. He’s had virtually zero impact for this club and he barely broke a sweat for 15 minutes. I think he had 1 or 2 touches. He shouldn’t be here, especially for $275k.
Also, Ring is crap. I can’t pretend to like the guy.

Agreed on both GMS and Ring.

I don't even know how to fix this.
