I'm totally cool with us being at the forefront of the eSport industry and signing our second player.
What does it do for the club? International exposure. Chris has actually excelled in some of the largest FIFA tournaments. He reached the worlds finals in Berlin last year. The whole time he's wearing a NYCFC jacket/jersey and using our crest/jersey in game. I'm sure it doesn't cost the club an absurd amount of money either. It's great marketing and getting in early and signing them to longer contracts before a lot of clubs start doing this and prices go up is smart.

Chris is PS4
Joey is XBOX

Odd that Chris has @nycfc.com and Joey @Cityfootball.com as an email. Is this another ghost lampard signing?

This is just for exposure and marketing purposes and I'll all for it. It's a great way to reach fans of the FIFA generation. FIFA fans who maybe aren't soccer fans or MLS fans. We pay them to wear the jersey, have the club logo as their team, etc. etc.

I'm still waiting for the first news of a league announcing a FUT league concurrent to the physical matches, with each team sending their designated FIFA player to play a showcase set of matches just before the kick-off, and the results of the games turned into a league table (possibly with its own playoffs) and the winner receiving a trophy with their club's name on it at the end of the year.

Well there's already an Eredevisie Fifa league.

I wonder how much these guys get paid? I would love to challenge them online sometime though that's probably not possible.

Probably depends on how well they do in tournaments, right? I'm not even sure if NYCFC (or any esports team) really directly pay their players. They just pay for plane tickets and hotel rooms and stuff like that so the players can compete in tournaments for prize money.

Interesting. The A-League in Australia actually started doing one of these leagues from last month, too, and they had a draft of players as well. Will be interesting to see where it all goes.
