Darn unexciting match ups and midweek games!Yeah. Pretty horrid this week. 11k at RFK, 10k in Montreal and 15k at PPL.
I feel as though these midweek games are throwing a monkey wrench into the average attendance every week. Why does the league like having this constantly low outlier bring down the total attendance numbers?
These are interesting to track. At some point will you post the team averages? I'm curious how NYC compares.Total After Week 14 (141 games) = 2,890,844
Average After Week 14 = 20,502

Just looking at the top 4. This also shows just how incredibly far ahead Seattle is. Makes me imagine what this league could look like in 10 years if other teams could crack that code.Seattle - 40,126
Orlando - 36,587
Toronto FC - 23,835
NYCFC - 23,539
I believe those NYCFC #'s are incorrect. Looks like you divided by 1 extra home match.........we only played 7.
New England, SKC, Philadelphia, Portland, Seattle, Chicago and Houston.
5 of the bottom 7 are original MLS teams with another, Chicago being added in 1998.
2015 Averages
10 expansion teams since 2006* - 24,036
10 surviving pre-2006 teams 17,023.
Failed teams** 9,573 in their last seasons.
5 of the 6 teams to have double digit sellouts last season have joined MLS since 2004.
MLS have got their expansion strategy right and the league will go from strength to strength.
*Includes Houston (relocation of the Clash)
**Excludes Clash
Nothing stopping original teams from rebranding or new marketing strategies to bring in new fans. Of course there is no time like the beginning to light a spark in your marketplace. But if you already have a base of thousands of fans you've got to be able to work with them to build excitement. I wonder how much of this is about the management of the original teams.I had been thinking of this and feel a bit for the original teams. Maybe its just bad timing and a general apathy to the team and the sport when they first started, plus the fact that these teams play in less than suitable stadiums doesnt help either.
Expansion teams today get to have a whole new generation of fans at their disposal.
