Wouldn't Lampard have to play out wide in a 4-2-2-2

My understanding is you can play it narrow or wide. Lampard can stay central, if we want to widen the attack, we can bring in Shelton.

Dug out a good article on it: http://talksport.com/magazine/featu...egrini-will-bring-south-american-flair-197550

The most important role in the 4-2-2-2 is that of the 'interiores', or rather, the two central players playing behind the strikers. It is in this role that Pellegrini's main playmaker tends to appear. At Villarreal it was Juan Roman Riquelme, at Madrid, initially it was Kaka, and at Malaga, Santi Cazorla and more recently, Isco. As most of the width in this system comes from attacking fullbacks, the interiores tend to play centrally, but if the full-backs are asked to hold their positions in more defensive roles, the interiores will drift out wide to create width. It is perhaps for this reason that Santi Cazorla has been mistakenly labelled as a 'winger' in the past, as at Villarreal, and indeed, Malaga, he would often drift out wide from his central position.

So if Lampard has a fullback bombing up the sideline, he can definitely hug the middle of the field. But the formation is flexible depending on who you play in the AM roles.

Oh? Wonder if it will be about players or about his job/performance. Why discuss players at this point in the year. Seems a bit early.

I read some where else that this is standard CFG protocol. They do an annual performance review/discussion with all of their managers. Some other place I read that the review often gets blown out of proportion in England as the journalists use it to write stories that the meeting is a sure sign Pellegrini is about to get fired when in fact its just standard CFG operating procedure. On the other hand if Kries is on the way out I assume this meeting is where it will be decided.

130 days until March 6, which will probably be the first Sunday of MLS 2016.

I doubt we see a major overhaul the MLS is way to restrictive. Excluding the DPs and Poku whose a no brainer to keep. To me it breaks down like this:

1. We just don't know enough to even consider dumping them
Iraola - played hurt, why on earth would you bail on this guy till you see what he can do when healthy. He may be the best RB in the league

Mena - CB pairings take time and continuity. Anyone that thinks they have enough info to judge Mena on this half season of erratic pairings doesn't understand how defense works.

2. You don't dump young talent to accommodate old DPs who will be gone in a year ***unless you can get something amazing in exchange for them.
Mix

3. MLS benches are made of cheap guys and we will always have players like this, some may leave but we need most of them for depth.
RJ Allen
Brandt
Balloucy
Mullins

MacNamera
Shelton
Valasquez
Taylor
Lord Kwame
Johansen

4. Vets from the US are over paid in the MLS due to the roster regulations, all teams have a few of these guys, they are serviceable and we will be stuck with some portion of them regardless of how much everyone dislikes them and their high pay:
Hernandez
Brovsky
Winget
Grabavoy
Jacobson

5. Logical cuts
Nemec - already gone
Calle - not worth the buy out on the loan
Alverz - Really old hardly played, hopefully Villa has a few friends by now
Mera - gone

6. Assumed Departures
Angelino
Facey

The positive side is that we end up with 3-5 international spots and two domestic spots (Mera/Williams). I assume some spots will be filled by more EDS players and hopefully the rest can be better quality internationals than those departing. fill the domestic spots and swap a few guys in categories 3 and 4 for MLS upgrades where possible and hopefully we can roll out a better team this year. If people are expecting more of a roster overhaul that that I just don't see how it's possible within the MLS constraints.

NYCFC can't be successful year over year with EDS players coming in and out every single year. We need lineup and depth consistency.

Yaro has stated that he wants a degree from Georgetown so he can go back to his country as a politician. If he is injured, he will definately been going back for his senior year IMHO.

Like it or not I don't think we have a choice. CFG's agreement with the MLS regarding NYCFC specifically has a clause in it that allows them to loan up to 4 EDS players per year to NYCFC. As the rest of the roster gets more stable I think a couple of loans per year of talented prospects can be managed. It's a nice option to have to fill key positions of need in a pinch. Hopefully CFG is selective and strategic in the players they send us.

Yaro's only a junior, so that would be graduating three semesters early. Have you read something that he's on pace to graduate that quickly?

He probably came in with all those AP and SAT II credits.

I looked at an MLS draft article from August. Maybe it was soccer by Ives. But it said he could graduate in December.

Just saying....sit back and watch. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day Jose Mourinho will coach NYCFC. Book it! =) You're Welcome!

If/when this does happen, would you all like this move or no?

I think we need to have the right players to have two strikers up front so Mullins or Shelton can get some playing time next to Villa. Mullins has played his ass off every time he was in and Shelton has had so little playing time he'll basically still be a rookie next season.

Agreed, and how do we pull that off? As long as Pirlo is here it will be tough to play 2 ST and not be vulnerable in the back. Either we sell him and buy a sick CDM, or (more realistically) we go with something like below (?). We know Kreis wants a diamond mid. Either way we require some serious offseason investment in new CBs that can allow the LB/RB to add width on the attack.

How do we know he wants a diamond mid? He didn't hand select the team with any of the components, and he didn't play it despite having two meaningless games at the end of the season.
