How do you come to that conclusion…it couldn't be his pass completion rate (normally 85% or higher…probably the best on the team), positioning (I doubt that), give aways (not really), defense…hustled, decision making going forward…passes to Villa a focal point. Should he have taken more shots…scored more goals…yes. And finally, I didn't miss seeing many games. As far as playing hurt…during a soccer season a lot of players are willing to even though they are not 100%. Its the coaching staff's call as to whether he believes they can contribute versus what's available on the bench. Better than having players who "quit" as soon they stub their toe!
The 15% of the passes he failed to complete were the ones going forward, the 85% were all back passes. I'm obviously over-simplifying it, but the guy rarely contributed to the attack flowing forward with his passes.

Teams can and do win just 3, 4, 5, or 6 games a season.

Vieira probably won't be faced with nearly as many complications as CFG set upon Kreis in the first season but...that's no guarantee that we won't join those ranks.

I wonder what will become of Patrick if he only wins 3 or 4 games? Will we pull a Toronto and cut another coach? Will CFG even be smart enough to know winning 4 games in a season in MLS doesn't mean you're an incapable coach?

Nikita those stats are misleading. Plain and simple.

And you need to put his overall body of work in context of what he is being paid. For his salary, we needed more out of him.

I think the problem with Poku at CAM is his distribution. He gets forward, helps others get into the attack and can hold but his passing is less than stellar for a true playmaker. I'm starting to really like the False 9 CF role for him.
A remember a few pretty perfect passes to Villa, and one that would have been a highlight if anyone but Jeb gets a head on it.

Also at that age, it may not yet be obvious what the best position is for each player, especially if they have multiple skill sets.

A simple college football analogy is the great HS/college QB that isn't good enough to make it at the next level as a QB but has scary athletic skills and changes to WR - Anquon Boldin comes to mind as a touted HS QB that played WR at FSU and now is a pro-bowler at Arizona.

Same thing in Soccer, a kid always played a certain position because that's what he was used to, but under a new coach with different eyes and a different take on things, moves him inside/outside or offense/defense and the player has a more natural feel for the position.
Definitely makes sense. Though to nitpick a bit, Anquan Boldin hasn't played for Arizona since 2009......

Boldin WAS a pro bowler in AZ in 2009! He played 3 years in Baltimore after that and now 3 years as a good WR in SF. But point taken. Plenty players change positions from HS to the pros over their careers. It takes a good coach to find their best fit. Hopefully PV can help our squad with that, since Khiry & Poku never seemed comfortable in Kriess' system.

A 4-3-3 with a Poku false 9 and Villa/Mullins/Shelton on the wings and Lampard underneath would be insanely fun to watch. I think it would be extremely effective offensively, but for that to work we really need some excellent CBs to show up and eliminate the need for a CDM. We've been talking about how poor the back line was all season, but I think that shows how much of a waste of space Jacobson has been as a defensive mid. I'll take a holding mid Mix over a CDM Jacobson any day.

Villa-----Shelton/Mullins
------Poku F9------
-----Lampard------
Mix-----------Pirlo
---4 Brick Walls---
----Saunders----

Well let's see... he turned the ball in crucial situations.. he was literally a zero ariel threat and he was never on the same page with his teammates so he killed the transition and chance to score several times. #putpokuonthewing

And she wouldn't need 215K to do the same job.

I would like to see Allen at LB and Iraola at RB, and then maybe Brandon Barker, George Evans, and Enes Unal brought in on loan. Unal after his loan expires on June 30th. * Nevermind Unal he's at Genk until 2017.
Basing any lineup on essentially depth players is not a wise strategy. Base a formation on the best players you have, (Which sadly should not include Allen), and places that we are weak, like RW/RM, LB, CDM, CB etc you get new starters.

I appreciate Grabavoy's contributions to this team, regardless of many posters feelings of him. But his age, production rate and contributions do not equal what his pay is. He is a role player at best now and if he stays his wage should be within reason.

With that said, until we get some replacements I would not blow up this roster quite yet.

And yes Vierra should be held to at least the same standard as Kreis. If we end up with the same result near the end, I hope not only does the coaching staff go, but also those pulling the strings in the background (I'm talking to you Reyna). And then use more reasonable and steady heads make the decisions.
