2015 Offseason Megathread

Pablo Alvarez, George John, Andoni Iraola, Ryan Meara, Sebastian Velasquez and Kwame Watson-Siriboe. Those are the names I'd most like to see gone. I wouldn't be upset if Chap Brandt got the boot. He's a very likable guy but they don't seem to have any faith whatsoever in his playing ability. Also wouldn't be upset if Mehdi Ballouchy is cut. He played some quality ball for us this season at times but clearly his playtime is cut by our fancy midfield.

Cutting George John this offseason would be a mistake. He was a risky investment that could still end up paying off nicely. Meara, unfortunately he's already gone...I like Meara, even though his only start was a disaster (which he made up for later on in the game). Alvarez, Iraola, Velasquez, Brovsky, Brandt and Mix are the players I would like to see moved.

We need a captain to the defense. That would be a game-changer, as it will not only affect the back, but the rest of the our play. We can't rely on someone inexperienced like Mena for that, even if he shows development. As far as I'm concerned, that is crucial. We also need a partner for Villa. The lone striker experiment has failed. He will be so much more effective with someone who can hold up play and/or who can also take on a defense. I honestly think that the dozens of off-side calls against Villa are the result of his having to cheat as a lone-wolf up there (I will blame a few on the lines/dimensions of YS.)

Hopefully the KWS goal will help us get some value in return for him.

The training schedule from this point on is interesting. They are getting only two weeks off, and then training for two weeks. Two weeks off again from team training for Thanksgiving as set forth in the CBA, but being given a personal training regimen for that time. And then training through to the December game in Puerto Rico.

Interested to see how much turnover there is on the roster. There are obviously a lot of bad players in the mix but I don't know how many you can realistically dump (or where replacements would come from).

For me there are only a few "untouchable" guys who I hope/expect to see next season: Villa, Lampard, Pirlo, Poku, Mullins, McNamara, Shelton, Diskerud, Jacobson. Not all perfect players, but the DP's aren't going anywhere and the young guys you can at least work with. This isn't a bad core.

I'd like to see Facey and Angelino back but who knows.

Wouldn't be that upset if anyone else on the roster left. I like Saunders but he's going to be 35 years old when the 2016 season starts, so if there's another option I'm fine with a change.

His lack of playing time is not a question of their faith in his ability. Chap got injured months ago (sports hernia I believe) and he had surgery. After a few weeks of rehab it was discovered that the surgery was a failure and he had to do it all over again. He's doing physical therapy again and will be back on the field this offseason. This is all straight from Connor btw.

Ah, thanks for that. I had no idea. I saw him a couple weeks ago on the street and he looked... "spritely."

Yeah as usual the club has been pretty quiet about it. I spoke to him before the derby this summer about it and then again last night after the meet & greet.

Not good news about George John. Also sounds like Kwame is a goner which is great news for this franchise.
The problem isn't so much that KWS is bad, not that he is that good, but is depth. Will NYCFC go get a starter and then have someone other than Mena or Facey as a backup? This year we were on life support even when our 1st choice Facey and Hernandez were out there. We need a new defense and then we need to keep some depth. Otherwise we might have a decent defense and be ultra thin which will also kill us.

This sums up my fears. Everyone wants to see KWS go.

If he's gone that leaves us with Mena, Hernandez and Connor Brandt (coming off an injury) as our only CBs. We're not sure if we get Facey back. Sure Wingert could fit in and maybe George John plays again but we're dangerously thin in defense. I don't want to be in a position where losing one CB to suspension or injury ruins our season.

I'll take KWS starting at CB over having to slot in an out of position defender there.

Most important piece for me is a tall center back that can dominate on corners. I believe the only reason Jacobson played all year is because he was the only one who could cover on corner kicks. Get replacement there and you can get rid of him and slot mix in next to pirlo. After that is a right and left wing. Can shelton play right wing? The team is not created for the diamond, it has to be a 442 next year. Villa can't be lone striker and you can't waste mix again.

Take that back, most important piece is a new coach with a brain.

I think Jeb can come back and contribute. RJ has been pretty good for his salary. Facey would be great to keep, as well as Angelino -- for youth/depth. I don't know what to do with Iraola. I think he'll be better next season, but I'm not sure why. Maybe he was a little run down after a full La Liga season. We'll probably keep Mena, too. However, everyone else really seems useless. I'm really hoping we don't have to experiment next season. Anyone banking on George John is out of their minds. If he's taken a year off, with surgery, and we haven't heard a peep about him being close to coming back, he's lost for good. Poor gamble, but it's safe to say he's toast. That's going to free up some money, however.

In the post game press conference with Kreis he said John has started running and will be pushed in the next couple of weeks to see where he's at.
