Why do we need a third kit? Third kits are just a marketing ploy to force punters to part with even more of their hard-earned cash anyway. I wouldn't bet against the idea that in another 10 years teams will bring out a different away kit for every competition that they play in. They're really not a development football as a whole needs.
Exactly. We wore the secondary only 5 times this year. Why the hell do we need a third?

Of course we don't need a third, for the team or for fans. But who (fans) chooses which jersey they wear/buy based on how often their team wears it?[fn1] If you're going to buy one (or more) sometimes it's nice to have more to choose from. FWIW, by my quick count, Seattle wore their 2nd and 3rd kits about a third of season's games, so it's not like NYCFC couldn't wear an alternate more often.
[fn1] I do check which jersey the team is wearing before I travel to away games and I tend to match. This is part superstition, part wanting to make the away section as visible as NYCFC supports as possible
edit: I've only been able to check the forums sparingly as of late, but nice to see you back mgarbowski

I can't understand our own fans who think about or care about being Man City junior. City Football Group is committed for all of its clubs to winning on and off the field with trophies being first and foremost. I though the primary kit was clean and looked good. If it has NYCFC's badge on it, it's our jersey.

We're not getting a third kit, and the old one isn't coming back. That's just MLS policy.

The jersey is going to be city blue, get over it.
I don't have to get over shit. I'm a fan and a paying customer, and if I don't like the product, I'll take my money elsewhere. I believe based on the ManCity light B.S. they're pulling, many potential fans already have, which is sad. I think with the CFG ties, but it's own NYC flavor, the club be so much more than it currently is.

If the Knicks, Nets, Jets, Giants, Rangers, Islanders, Yankees, or Mets never existed and came into existence in 2015 in their respective leagues, how do you think they would fair amongst New York fans. There is always growing pains, but we'll always be connected to CFG and all that comes with it (good and bad, if you see it that way).

Don't pull another LampardGate, win MLS Cup(s), and I'll be fine.

If some people are too short minded to only see CFG and Man City when they look at NYCFC, they can rightly support another team.

See, why do you always need to do that? You make a fair, quality point, and then in your last point - you almost always less than subtly insult someone. You should probably push people around a bit less on the forums... it makes folks not want to participate. I've seen you do it to other people before, too. Just an FYI.

So you're saying Melbourne is the fcked up ugly stepchild for having a unique jersey?

Melbourne City were blocked from having a sky blue kit by Sydney FC. Had Sydney not protested, Melbourne City would most certainly be wearing sky blue home kits as well.

"But the club’s attempts to do so were thwarted last week when Football Federation Australia and an independent arbitrator upheld a protest against the potential switch by Sydney FC, which already wears sky blue."

The only time Man City comes up is (1) discussing potential loanees, of which we've only ever received two, and (2) people complaining about how we might be/become a Man City farm team or copy.

See the disconnect? If anything, Man City has been way, way more distant than feared, simply offering some coaching advice in the offseason and aforementioned two loanees. They had a bit of struggles with basing PR in Manchester at first, but that seems all corrected.

Um. Viera?

Fair point on your end regarding my last point. I just found the primary kit to be nice from an objective fashionable point of view. I hope others see that point too from the same perspective.

It's got a clean look. I'd like the club to continue with basic sky blue home and outlandish away

It's grown on me considerably and CFG put up a shit ton of money for us to have this club. So I'm ok with the kit

I love the blue kit. It looks great on person and on the pitch. And that is coming from a Man U fan who used to get physically ill when I saw the sky blue. I would like to see just ongoing minor tweaks to the home kit to keep it fresh, and I also like the trend of the wacky for the away.

The club did a poor job of managing expectations between the club announcement and the first kit launch, but that's ancient history now to me. I think this year's MC kit solved the last remaining issue I had which was that last year the kits were effectively indistinguishable when watching from say second level stands or on TV. The differences, such as the Adidas stripes, badge and league patch don't make enough of a difference. This years MC kit is clearly the same brand but an obviously different version so I don't have the confusion of "do I hate the guys or love these guys." Of course our new home kit could mimic the current MC kit and there we are until MC changes again. I have zero issue being part of a brand, and I can live with the minor problem I just mentioned if that's how it's gonna be, but I like it just a bit better when the kits can be easily distinguished without having to check for small details from no more than a few paces away.
