away opener 3/5 in Orlando

home opener 3/12 vs DC
I would have been happy pushing our home opener back to the third week. March 12th is likely to be cold as shit. Even 7 days later can do wonders with the weather.

And once again the home opener coincides with my daughter's birthday. Maybe I can make the party on the 5th...

Thoughts:

NYCFC will be opening up Orlando's new stadium. So we'll be playing them for another first another time. Way to push the rivalry MLS...

Since our first two games are on Sunday, it's highly likely that both games are on national television. The downside, having to wait longer for Joe Tolleson and Ian Paul Joy.

Week 1 Sunday is a triple-header with ORL-NYC (5 PM), ATL-RB (7 PM), VAN-PHI (9:30 PM)
Week 2 Sunday is the traditional double-header with NYC-DC (2 PM), MIN-ATL (5 PM)

With our first game away, hopefully that means our last game of the season will be at home.

Mix Diskerud averages 1 goal per 90 minutes in opening games of the season. 1 vs Orlando in 2015, 1 vs Chicago in 2016. #StartMix

Last time we opened away to ORL then home to DCU we ended with 4 points on 3 spectacular goals. I'd take that if offered today.

Can't wait for the Rowdies or Miami to join the league. Give them an actual geographical rival. Hell, they should at least be looking at Atlanta as more of a rival then us. What the hell does NYC and Orlando have in common besides joining the league the same year?

I have a feeling the league will try to use NYCFC to open every team's new stadium. We bring the fans.
