Did you think he wouldn't be part of this preseason roster?
With past hints that he could head straight to europe I honestly wasn't sure he'd ever spend time with the Sr. team.

Trades are great, but it's our homegrowns and draft picks that I really want to see succeed. We seem to have a real competitive advantage in scouting. Likewise, we can and should beat the league on development.I think a bigger deal that Haak, Shavar, Polvara, and Scally are there too. I don't know much about the last two, but Haak and Shaver are legit with the USBNT. Maybe it's just PV giving them a taste of what's next, or they're being used as a litmus test for the drafted players to be compared to, but to have brought 5 guys total says something that about the state of the academy.
If Iceland can make the World Cup so can weWho has the largest population to draw from in the league? I think RSL has the largest square area to pull from. Do we have the most population to pull from?
Ibeagha could be interesting. On the one hand, Ugo was tearing shit up in USL, and Ibeagha had a chance at Houston and presumably didn't pass muster. On the other hand, PV and staff have shown they can drastically improve defenders (Sweat, White), so he could be a prospect.https://www.nycfc.com/post/2018/01/22/preseason-2018-31-players-travel-jacksonville

Side note: I remember seeing Sweat in pre-season and thinking he was getting torched but he was really solid by the tail end.
If Iceland can make the World Cup so can we
There are 6 playoff spots and the only reason the standing were close last year was because of massive injuries (leading to bullshit lineups with the two slowest players on the team in midfield) and PV’s insistence on bad substitutions (either trying to bunker when we aren’t built to or bringing in inadequately skilled players like Shelton). If the depth we’ve accumulated is as good as being advertised and suspected, then there shouldn’t be a dramatic drop off when replacing injuries and going to the bench. The only caveat is if PV still thinks TMac is a better option than every other player on the roster - that happens and we’ll be playing with 10+1 traffic cop.Chicago did re-sign Schweini, gonna be tough to get out of our group

No worries. We don’t have to play Trinidad.Oh god not another Hex

Closed door scrimmage.What about Tobago?
I don't think he was. Saw it mentioned somewhere else as well. He's usually pretty easy to pick out because of his socksIs it me, or is David Villa not at training today?
Actually, I think it says the wrong thing about the club and forthcoming signings. Last year, Sands came alone so it was easy to see it meant something more than what they were letting on.I think a bigger deal that Haak, Shavar, Polvara, and Scally are there too. The smart play seems to be to sign the academy kids before they bypass the Club and sign directly overseas (Weston McKinney). I assumed MLS was going to make some rule changes over the winter to make it easier for clubs to do that, but we won't know if thats the case until the 2018 rules are posted.Actually, I think it says the wrong thing about the club and forthcoming signings. Bringing 5 just screams means nothing other than training bodies and cover for Gio so no one expects him to actually be signed.
I’m not sure what to take from this, other than McKennie isn’t your favorite player. And yes, people don’t want to miss out on that. The smart play seems to be to sign the academy kids before they bypass the Club and sign directly overseas (Weston McKinney). PV was talking about having 2 full squads for those back-to-back games. I am expecting that most of the Academy players will get some real minutes and a chance to impress like Sands did.
We are expected to sign Gio if we can.
SKC has probably signed 5 in the last 1-2 years. You put the investment into the Academy, you want to make sure its profitable. I don't know how to do that except to get kids under contract and have 1 in 3/4/5? that eventually you can sell on to at least pay for the academy.I’m not sure what to take from this, other than McKennie isn’t your favorite player. But we don’t have that many kids actually competing for pro deal right now. No way.
