2019 Offseason Thread

I remember one game where he was the LWB in a 3-5-2. It did not suit him. He was reluctant to go down the line and kept looking inside and wanting to turn back. I think they made a change at half time or 60'.
Yep. I think there’s a bit of focused forgetfulness with Ofori. He was serviceable, but the amount of discomfort with his play was pretty high because he only had one foot, always went lateral or back with passes which killed transition, was pretty weak on tackles although decent positioning led to intercepts, and he added little in the offensive third. He’s gonna be this year’s version of TMac/Wallace with a higher salary than production warrants.

We could do a lot worse than Ebenezer Ofori for that spot. After all, we're just 2 years removed from Mikey Lopez getting substantial minutes in the D-mid role.

Not an exciting signing, but a good one.
Ofori played 60 minutes or more in 20 games last year, which is probably close to twice what the club anticipated. The club won 1.75 PPG when he did so, which is better than the 1.50 PPG when Ofori did not play or played less than 60.

I won't even pretend he's responsible for the club being better when he played. It's probably just noise. But that is an A+ performance for a reserve.

If he is this years version of TMac/Wallace then we are already upgrading our bench and moving on from those nitwits. Ofori showed that while he does only have one foot, it is a serviceable foot and I don't ever recall him either missing from 2 feet in front of the net or standing in midfield and pointing to where he was supposed to be and wanting a teammate to cover for his slow, lazy ass.

If Ring/Parks/Sands is hurt and Ofori needs to start, I'm not going to cower or presume it's a guaranteed loss vs. seeing TMac or Wallace as a starter.

I can buy that.

My point though, when comparing to W/T, is that he is a very expensive sub that should be stuck behind Ring, Parks, Sands.

Well, the question is which of Ofori and Parks is expected to start next to Ring. I suppose they will let them battle it out in pre-season. I would hope for Parks, if only because I know what Ofori gives, and while it is good, it is not good enough to get the team where we want it to be.

Meanwhile Sands is looking around saying “what about me?”

Parks is the better player than Ofori. He provides more going forward. We should consider him the starter once he’s comfortable with the system.

Sands will get time.

Question for me is where does Dome want to play Ring? Because if he wants to play him higher up the pitch, Sands could start the opener.

Haak would seem to be behind both Ofori and Parks.

I was a little surprised that he signed TBH

Haak is a much better offensive player than Ofori and it’ll be interesting to see him compared to Parks, whom I’ve never watched play.

If the question from the bench is to choose Ofori or Haak to play, then it’s probably more a question of overall tactics and role sought on the pitch - it’d be like deciding if you want to put Lewis or Sands on the field, different skill sets for different game situations.

WHO DO YOU KNOW?!?!
Because I spotted him at the RSL game and was like "duuude that's Haak!!" and then the nycfc u-whatever coach comes and says "oh yeah! that's him. I'm the u-whatever coach, I can have him come speak to you." and then he brought haak over and i asked him some questions and he must have htought "holy shit someone actually recognized me what the actual fuck" and that, my friends, is why Haak signed with us. :)

I can write it in even more detail, but I spared some of the super stalkerish looks that happened when we walked by one another on the top level and i looked at him, he looked at me, he saw I understood he was Haak and smirked, and I was super confused. Then it happened a second time with the same exact look.
...And the part where after I finished talking to him, all the other u-whatever players were like "Yooooo" and stuff, and I didn't even recognize other standouts like Gio or idk. XD

I typically see some academy players as I walk out of the stadium. I walk from center field to home plate. They're usually talking with each other or friends. I just let them be. They're still kids. Once they sign a professional contract, I'm asking them questions.

James Sands is so shy though. It's nuts.
