i just realized that there may not be a US open cup again this year, shame i like that tournament.

ugh they really doing leagues cup( we are part of this one). i dont mind the US open cup, but not the leagues cup, especially if we will have limited squad.

with covid travel bans going into place soon, signing players will be that much more difficult. even if we did sign them, they wouldn't be able to come train with the squad til the ban is lifted, which could be months away.

They named the April 3rd opening "MLS is Back" and the press release does not seem to clarify, or infer either way, whether that means an MLS is Back style bubble start, or matches in home markets.
While it is typical for MLS to put a brand on everything, I wonder if they are committed to playing home markets or if they are possibly considering a bubble.

It seems as though the J&J vaccine trial is going to be the critical piece of the puzzle to getting fans in the stands near the start of the season. They claimed that they can deliver 100m doses by the end of April. If that is the case, couple that with Moderna and Pfizer's delivery schedule, it would appear as though we should be at the point in which all willing adults will have been vaccinated by the end of April, if not earlier.
If that is the case, I can certainly envision a 17 home game schedule with fans in attendance for all.
Of course, if the J&J vaccine is not approved....oh boy. Moderna and Pfizer are contracted to deliver the US 400m doses total by end of June, enough for 200m people (probably 150-175m accounting for spoilage and lost doses) which is probably the starting point for more normal life.
If any dangerous new strains emerge that are vaccine proof, this season is over and the league may go through a major restructuring at that point.

So US is expecting over half the population to be vaccinated be end of june? I thought the reports were august
Yea I'm not sure what I'm missing. The companies of course could fail to meet their projections, J&J could fail to get approval (Astra-Zeneca is also in late stage and already approved and being delivered in many other countries), too many people might be hesitant to get it and doses go to waste, or any other number of things can get in the way. But as it seems to stand unless my info is outdated, Pfizer and Moderna are each under contract to deliver 200m doses by end of June (400m total doses/2 dose regimen) and J&J executive said in recent days that they project 100m doses (single dose regimen) by end of April.

Here's the interesting question: If J&J is not at 95% efficacy, but closer to, say, 70%, will people want that vaccine or will they be holding out for Pfizer/Moderna? I could see a situation where J&J isn't effective enough and people want to bide their time for Moderna/Pfizer.
I'm thinking that the safety profile will be key, but also the efficacy against serious disease. If the J&J is 70% effective, but 100% prevents death and hospitalizations, then I think it will be successful. The one-dose factor will appeal to lots of people.
On the other hand, I think the Oxford/Astra one is dead for US purposes if J&J gets approved.

By this you mean it only prevents 70% of people from being infected, but for those who do get infected, [almost]* nobody dies or even has to go to the hospital, right?
* Nothing is 100%, especially in life sciences.
