2024 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs

Crazy what can happen when you have a bad season finish 9th and respond by signing a #10 with a massive amount of career experience at the highest level who can totally control a game.

MLS where multi-year rebuilds are completely unnecessary...
They did only finish in 7th this year, though. Then again he was injured for part of the season. MLS Cup is a crap-shoot, as usual.

Biggest MLS Cup defeat is 3-0, so maybe we can hope for like a 5-0 defeat for RB?
LA is capable of something like that. Seattle was terrific maintaining their defensive shape tonight. They were moving like a school of fish, just really organized and disciplined until the moment until they got twisted up a little. But all it took was a moment.

Red Bull doesn't have that kind of play in their briefcase. They'll play their usual ugly ball and leave the Galaxy space while trying to beat them up, and then it's look out.

all i can say is this fo better thank god they have the stadium coming.

and also this red bulls team is very good and their point total does not reflect their ability.

LA Galaxy really should do it next weekend. They are the real deal. Hope they smash the Red Bulls. New Jersey is obviously a different team with Forsberg on the field, but they are a prime example of a playoff field that's too big. They don't deserve to be in MLS Cup by any metric other than they've played well for 4 games at the right time of the year.

We truly do not need 18 teams in the playoffs in a 29-team league. Top-6 in each conference would be more likely to give a representative champion.

Only but two months ago when LA was playing NY, I was hoping for NY but really not invested. Now I’m all in on LA and really quite invested

I like this. It would make for one hell of a dramatic decision day.

They should go back to the one-and-done playoff format, too. The best-of-three first round isn't necessarily a bad idea in and of itself, but it's dragging on way too long.

That explains my thinking pretty well. MLS is a parity-driven league, where any decent roster consistently has a chance. IMO good teams roll the dice every year by trying to have as solid a roster as possible. Throwing away multiple years searching for a replacement striker or gambling on raw 18-year-old prospects that require multi-year development processes doesn't make sense where in any year any well-built team can win. Certainly, development is needed, mostly through the academy but the teams that win more often than not prioritize using their key roster spots on players ready to contribute from the day they arrive.

Puig appears to have torn his ACL. That's a huge loss for LA Galaxy.

if this is why the red bulls win the cup.....

galaxy have a much better squad and on the whole, deserve the cup more with their entertaining attack.

no puig is gonna change their attack a lot, i think, since he's so direct and fast paced. really sucks for him though. hope he makes a very speedy recovery.

It's official. Huge advantage for the Red Bulls.

I don't think the sports books have updated their lines since the news. But as I post this on FanDuel it's:

LA Galaxy -140
Draw +300
Red Bulls +340

Just wrapped up for the day and caught this on Bluesky via Ben Wright. I'm shocked. What a ballsy performance last night.

That, horrifyingly, might even make the Red Bulls favorites. He might even have a bigger impact for them than Maxi Moralez had for us in the 2021 run.
