2024 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs

As a general rule of thumb, teams in the West can bang home the goals and can't defend worth a lick.

That's one reason I became a Western Conference monkey and look forward to their matches on Apple. 🤣

Minnesota really let go of the rope, but LA Galaxy is so good.

Galaxy's big signings are the model every team should follow. Good players that are good enough to be outstanding in MLS, and still young enough to be sold on at some point. They are the model we should follow. Paintsil, Puig, Pec, Jovelic. All great, and all can be sold at some point in the future. Stop with the 19 year olds and sign players like that.

Galaxy are the definition of an ambitious MLS club.

I’ll be rooting for LA from here on out. They’re fun to watch. The other three are varying degrees of obnoxious.

yea. definitely the most exciting attack in the league. nearly all of their games are high energy. puig doesn't know what "slow things down" means and he has the supporting cast to attack at speed.

they're fun to watch. puig was an incredible signing for them and I hope once we have our stadium, we'll be able to attract talent like him to NY. I really do think having no real home is a turn off for more elite players.

it's been 10 years since they won and they have a team that is worthy of winning it. And anything but the red bulls.

my order of who i'd want to win it all.

LA
SEA
ORL
NJ

I'm fine with LA and Seattle winning it.

When's the last time a conference final was contested between 4 and lower and nobody from 1-3?

West in 2021, Portland vs Real Salt Lake was 4v7.

As recently as 2018 only the top-6 teams in each league made it, so there's not a lot of history for this many upsets considering the top-2 seeds only had to win one game to reach conference finals.

With the 18 teams making the playoffs now, it's made this tournament ripe for upsets. Too many undeserving teams make it in these days.

Honestly I’d rather see Seattle lose more than Orlando. Seattle had quite a bit of dynasty action up until only recently. They’ve had their fun in the sun. I think it would be very fun story telling to see Galaxy win after LAFC won 2 years before.

I know our team will always be tied to Orlando for those of us who have been here since the beginning, but to me it feels like any rivalry we had with them got swept away when we won the cup and Atlanta and Miami entered the league. Orlando fans have other teams to hate more than us and we’ve really grown closer to rivaling with Philly and Toronto.

Albeit, I still think about Lion’s run in with Orlando fan after an away trip he had down there years ago which imo is unforgivable and intolerable.

Pretty much same. Outside of loyalty to Lion and his attack, I kind of like Orlando at this point. I even now look fondly at the 2 spot kick shootouts for the crazy antics: one with the Orlando fans running around the stadium en masse to get behind the goal where the kicks happened, the other with the keeper DQ and ref-induced confusion about the sub and Schlegel wearing the gloves and the false celebration. Those were harder to take at the time because it seemed we never could win a shootout but that's behind us now and I just laugh.
My preferred order is
LAG
Orlando
Seattle
RB

In some sense the Galaxy have so many MLS Cup stars - most from an ancient era where the past is another country - it doesn't matter to the rest of the league if they get another. Seattle fans are insufferable IMO and acted like they invented cold fusion after winning a cup by not playing offense.

Orlando home game, Red Bulls announcer. Tell me the league isn't pushing Red Bulls into MLS Cup...

He's not the Red Bulls announcer anymore, he's a national announcer who appears to focus more on the east coast and is the "B" announcer in Apple's package. Galaxy-Sounders is a massive game in MLS so of course their "A" team is doing that one.

i honestly don't mind him announcing our games. he at least identifies the players accurately and knows something about them. better than twellman talking about the field size and sight lines for 90% of his commentary or some no-name nobodies not knowing anything about the players so they fill the airtime with nonsense conversation.

As much as I love Joe T, he's unavailable too much of the season and Cangialosi is probably the best announcer in their roster. He's much preferable to Twellman, who's #1 because of his playing career and long record of calling MLS games nationally which most of the announcers never did before Apple. It's annoying that RB fans get to hear a familiar voice on their playoff games, but not annoying that everyone else does.

Also, I think every single game Tolleson did this year was in either Toronto or Montreal. Which, considering he lives in the NYC market is kind of weird. But they clearly regionalized their talent to specific regions. Tolleson was north of the border. Cangialosi was usually doing a game somewhere in the northeast.

I also think Cangialosi has been very fair in his commentary when doing our games, including our games with the Red Bulls.
Cangialosi tends to be pretty good, aside from occasional comments. It's whoever they keep choosing as the color commentator that suck.
