2026 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Practically, we have two slots open right now. We could sign someone in Julian's slot because even if he comes back next year, we will be able to buy down Talles. Jovan's loan is just until the summer, with the ability to extend to Jan 2027 and a purchase option at the end. Would wager that we can't do anything with that slot until at least his loan is extended.

Breaking news NYCFC has their starting striker for the beginning of the season:

Looks like everyone who didn't dress yesterday is missing from the performance trackers. No O'Neil; no Shore; no Trewin; no Magno.

Not reading much into that.

The tracker thing doesn't line up but the absence of Magno in training photos after being consistently featured in early camp photos and Glenn mostly avoiding the subject all together on the broadcast is enough to make me suspicious something might be up.

Thinking he might have an injury of some kind. Hopefully not too serious.

So after the failed Sylla transfer, have there been any other goalscorer rumors?

I have not seen any but Glenn mentioned again on the broadcast that they are actively looking and committed to signing a #9.

I think it's just their normal mode of keeping everything quiet. We won't know till they are close. That said season starts in under 2 weeks. With visas and medicals there is no way a new 9 is here to start the season.

With Magno MIA, it looks like we are probably starting the year with the same offense as last season minus, Julian and Martinez.

Silver lining of potentially starting the season lite on attackers is that it could create an opportunity for Reid and/or Carrizo to have a Shore like moment. Could be fun to see what those guys can do with a solid chunk of minutes.

Playing the first few games maybe, but it doesn’t seem like we’re going 24 games into the season without a striker. This Sporting Director seems much faster to make signings and they continue to say that want to sign one this window.

Or for Agu to have a Taty moment. He was pretty frustrating when he first arrived. Then He took off.

Maybe I’ve been thick but I just realized that our only successful signing of a pure striker since Villa was Heber. Our two best, Alonso and Taty, were signed as wingers. Not suggesting Agu should be up top but signing pure strikers hasn’t usually borne me much fruit. Hoping Seymour can step up.

Dude that broke his leg 18 months before the other one is coming back second.
yep. and jones is already running around and training with the team. so it was interesting to hear glenn say that perea would be back sooner.
I think Perea's break was much simpler and cleaner. Malachi's leg pretty much exploded. And as far as I can tell, Mason Stajduhar hasn't played since the collision, either.

Taty was a striker when NYCFC signed him

funny thing is he was an "attacking midfielder" but can play as a "forward or a winger"

He played nearly all of his career up to that point as a CF, and then because he joined when Villa was still on the team, he got more minutes on the wing than at CF, because Villa. Then he begins 2019 as the CF but then moves to the wing when Heber comes on and goes on his ridiculous run. But they even paired as duel strikers quite a bit as well.

The only time he ever really played as a "winger" was in very short spurts within his first two years at NYCFC due to a high quality CF in front of him in the depth chart. And even then, he was still getting CF minutes when Villa or Heber were out.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to disprove your statement. I just thought it was funny he was described as an "attacking midfielder" in the article when we first signed him.
