2026 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

Mo Salah is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

We are in the market for a game-changing winger who can also play as a striker.

On the Messi conversation we were having elsewhere while I don't think he would bring the volume of interest Messi does, I do think he would increase attendance, especially with how popular the Premier League is in the States.

That said, I put the chances of this at somewhere around 1%.

But if we sign Mo Salah we won't have a DP spot for the $10M 26 year old from the Slovakian 3rd division CFG finds after their 6 months of searching.

Listen I think Mo Salah has about a 1% chance of happening and even that might be high. But they are looking for a winger who can play striker with Alonso out and can backfill winger when Alonso returns. Mo Salah would light up MLS defenses. It's a free transfer, but his salary with Liverpool was north of $25 million/year. Even if he takes a substantial paycut it's hard to see how NYCFC would make that work.

yea - the salary is the big thing here. unless he's just willing to take a huge paycut to try something new because he wants to live in NY, he's not coming here. More than likely, he'll go to Saudi League and keep his salary or get even more. he's been linked there for years already.

LAFC got Son, to me there is not much difference between Son and Salah so it should be possible. We know it wont happen because the real difference is in the level of ambition between NYCFC and LAFC.

It's fun to talk and think about, but realistically I can't imagine we would sign him. It's not even our perceived lack of ambition, which I continue to think isn't correct. It's just that why would he come to MLS now when he will probably have his share of European teams calling him, to say nothing of the Saudi league where he could all-but play at home for ridiculous salaries.

This gets me thinking. If a great winger comes along, at this point, which wing would you rather get bumped out of the starting XI?

Pre-season I think there would have been no question that Wolf was still a clearly much more solid player than Agu. Small sample size, but 5 matches in, Ojeda is showing a ton of growth. Numbers wise - Ojeda with 2G, 1A; Wolf with 1G, 0A. And I don't think those numbers are unfair. I think Ojeda has been threatening in every match. He still needs to learn how to cut inside, but he's showing a lot.

Earlier we talked about 1 is an anomaly, 2 is a coincidence, 3 is a trend. Well, Ojeda now has 2.

So ... which would you rather keep in the XI?

This is admittedly a cop out answer but I'd like rotation. Wolf fades down the stretch every season, Ojeda is young and has never handled the load of a full time starter. and Maxi is 39. I'd like a second high quality DP to be the set starter along with Nico and a rotation of Ojeda, Wolf and Maxi.

Edit: And to add if the rotation is going to help at all the player needs to join this window, like they said they were going to do coming out of camp, getting a guy for the last 10 games of the season after running the rest of the offense into the ground is pointless. .

if we get a star winger who is going to start every game, the remaining wing will come down to the opponent and what we need. if we need control in tight spaces, then we play wolf. if we need to stretch the backline and keep their wingbacks pinned or take advantage of the space left behind, we play ojeda and maybe jones if he makes a comeback. if i absolutely had to pick one to sit while the other gets to start, at the moment i would choose ojeda. wingers are supposed to be threatening in the attack each time and personally, i like attacking style. but i don't think anyone can question wolf's work rate tracking back despite not being a true wing threat in the traditional sense.

I’d take Maxi out
