It's Tzom Gedaliah, you schmegegge.
I get the logic, and I wouldn't hate that if we already were locked in 3rd, but since we can still reasonably be on the road for the knockout round, we take this game seriously. In any serious game, you never start someone you know can't go at least 45, let alone a fraction of that.Think he'd start him knowing he's only going 20 to gel with starters and set the tone, rather then save him towards the end when the game's tone is already set and they could be chasing/holding onto a goal? I'd rather he starts if we're really prepping for the playoffs.

This one is ripe for narratives. The MLS hype ma chine going all out to promote this game:
Remember NYCFC? They've been off for three weeks and with a game at Audi Field coming up, we'll likely see some combination of tired D.C. and rusty NYCFC. Will it show in the action? Tune in to find out.

So is the sensible option to (1) start the season in early/mid February, (2) play fewer games, (3) have more double game weeks, or (4) play more games during the spring/summer international breaks? Or is it some particular combination of the above?TBH, if MLS was sensible regular season would be over before the international break. Playoffs would be over before Nov break. MLS Cup some time Thanksgiving weekend

Like LionNYC said I think you go to single game elimination. I think there is some value starting the season earlier to avoid playing on international breaks. It could also help our CCL teams get into the swing of things earlier. We have enough teams in warm weather cities and/or domes to play in February. So is the sensible option to (1) start the season in early/mid February, (2) play fewer games, (3) have more double game weeks, or (4) play more games during the spring/summer international breaks? Add to that, the February matches are played in warm climate locations. Those teams get the advantage to start the season at home, cold climate teams have reverse advantage end of season.Like LionNYC said I think you go to single game elimination. I also wonder how much of the MLS schedule snafus are self inflicited due to inefficiency. Maybe MLS needs invest some money on a quant genius to figure this out.
If we look at 2019 calendar with the intentions of ending the regular season Oct 7th, we have 28 playable weeks by excluding the 3 intl breaks which would mean 6 midweek games. Two weeks of February decreases that to 4 midweek games. This season we have had 7 midweek games.
