New show premiered last night and the second episode is on later today. Anybody watch it or plan to watch it? I was a huge fan of Breaking Bad (like most people were), so I am pretty excited to watch this. I haven't had the chance to watch the first episode yet, I have it taped, but I've gotten mixed reviews from a few of my friends.
I'll post my thoughts on it later after I watch the first episode.

I watched it last night and I gotta say - my first impression: fantastic! It really captures the same tone and feel as Breaking Bad - great music, cinematography, dark humor, and really makes you feel uneasy at times - all while exploring a new character and story line

Can't wait to watch the second episode tonight

Question LostAnvil LostAnvil - do you have to know BB or Saul to get it? Trying to think if I should tell my parents to give it a shot. They didn't watch BB.

Finally watched the first episode! Thought it was very good and liked how it was made similar to breaking bad, like Anvil said in terms of music and cinematography. I found it a bit hard to follow though, at times.
I like the references to BB but so far think it is enjoyable without having seen BB. My mom really liked it but my dad wasn't sold and said he would watch it tonight to decide.

Second episode

The first episode got me hooked and the second episode got me sold.

I was worried about some of the typical issues you can get with prequels - knowing which characters are safe - but so far this has really captured the feeling you'd get while watching the more anxiety-driven episode of Breaking Bad

Not sure yet if someone would need to watch Breaking Bad to really enjoy this new story because, if anything, knowing the familiar faces, like Mike and Tuco, really just adds to an already great character - whether or not they're new to you - remains to be seen, though

Definitely liked the second episode better than the first! and I agree with you about the characters giving the same feel as BB. I was initially concerned with Odenkirk's ability to be the main guy- because I felt Cranston really made BB. But so far so good and I'm already waiting for the next episode :)

Yeah - it's looking real good so far

Side note: let's all try and use the spoiler tags just in case we want to talk about the show right after it airs - don't want to spoil anything for anyone who's watching the thread
Yeah good idea. How do I do that?

Edit- Nvm got it. Copied it from your post ;)

I enjoyed it when I watched it over the weekend. Very much in the style of BB and I reckon it should fit in with the back story in a very interesting way. The only thing that doesn't sit right with me is the sheer quantity of cameos we're probably going to end up seeing. The ones we've had so far are fine, but considering that's only after two episodes, and when you consider that they were speaking to Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn about appearances and Vince has talked of Bryan Cranston appearing, then even considering some of those were rejected by the actors it just feels like they're trying to cram in too many references and I fear it's going to end up feeling forced.

Yeah I agree with you. I felt Tuco was even a bit forced. Mike makes sense though, and I think they can do cameos if they do them right, I.e. Fitting in people that would have been connected to Walter White through Saul somehow, not people like Tuco who were introduced into BB before Saul was on the show.

I'm really looking forward to the episode tonight!

I think it depends on the reasoning behind the character cameo - For me, Tuco was a good idea because how else would you have a cliffhanger in the pilot episode that would evoke anxiety for the viewer? As for Mike, he was the assumed point of contact that helped Saul bring Gus and Walter together for the first time, so they k new each other before the Breaking Bad

I'm alright with those two, though I think Mike could have been introduced an episode or two later on. My issue is that they evidently were tapping up pretty much all the recurring cast of BB to try to get as many in as possible. I'm concerned that in episode 3 you're going to have Skylar bumping into Saul somehow, then in episode four he ends up taking on a job for the Nazi guys, then in episode five you'll have Hank and Marie getting caught up somehow while they sneak a brief Walter White shot in the background, and then when they finally revisit the Cinnabon thing, he'll end up serving Badger and Skinny Pete. I know that half of those probably won't happen, but it feels like they would have loved to have done that if they could get all the actors on board.
