Blocked by players/staff?

So I've promoted Nathan C (photographer) since last season. Retweeting him often and asking supporters to follow him since he always has cool shots.
Well someone retweeted him yesterday and I see the tweet is unavailable so I click on it and it says I can't view it since I'm blocked XD.
Also was unfollowed by Mix and prob some others. Damn son lol
Anyone else receive blocks on Twitter for not saying the nicest of things after Saturday's game?
I'm assuming that's what it was. I know in the tweet that was blocked he said something about Lampard.

So this brings up another question... As supporters should we filter what we say just because staff/players follow us? I don't think so. Nothing against Mix but the team was shit and I'm going to call that out. And I only did it on Saturday. Stopped tweeting about the game after that point and moved forward. Obviously not something he or others would want to see on their timeline but hey that's what we as fans do. We talk about the game, you play the game. So we talk about you.

Nope. The club followed me a long time ago, I talked a lot of shit when Lampardgate happened and they never unfollowed. You shouldn't hold back because you know they won't like it. I think it's ok if they unfollow or block us. It's petty but they have a right to block out negativity if they want.

I don't think anyone should feel compelled to filter what they say just because someone is following them, subject to two caveats:

(1) They should be treated with basic human respect, which can be lacking on the internet, of course. As professional athletes, they are consenting to public commentary on their performance, including when it is poor. But there is obviously a line in terms of the nature of the commentary which we all know (and I'm quite sure you didn't cross). It is the same sort of stuff we try to police as amongst ourselves here and should apply whether the athlete is following one or not.

(2) We have to respect their right to block and unfollow us. I believe I lost Mikey Lopez's Mom at some point :)

I may have called out Mikey once or twice but the rest of my tweets just summed up how we suck.

I think players walk a fine line when they follow fans on social media - or come to forums like this one. They are going to see a lot of things that they don't like, and that it is probably better for them to not see.

Maybe they read up on the forums on Saturday and they blocked you so the words they read don't come back to the surface.

After the game I wrote some separate not-so-friendly responses to a 7 or 8 of the "we play for you" tweets they all made on Friday. I just checked 4 of the players who I know were on the receiving end and none of them blocked me. Don't have time to methodically check them all but that's pretty good.

Yeah, in this last season a lot of Dundee United players just closed their twitter altogether. Must have been getting dog's abuse.

It is tricky, because one of the things people praise about social media is that it brings us closer to celebs - there's no intermediary and we can converse directly.

It does seem a little thin skinned though, to look to avoid criticism or block anyone that has a go after a bad performance. Obviously insults, threats and mentions of family could lead you to being blocked, but my reaction to this is the same as the "players might go in their shell if we yell at them while they're playing" argument. Don't want the bad reactions? Play better. Or, if you're getting stick, shut people up by improving.

We were giving Fat Frank pelters on Saturday but if he'd stuck the ball in the net and then run up to us waving his belly and his wallet at us, we couldn't exactly be mad.

I ragged on Mikey Lopez for being terrible at tackles, accumulating yellows and passing. He is a ball of energy. All he does is RUN, RUN AND RUN. I can understand why Vieira may have mistaken his energy for a positive but he fails elsewhere. Having him running around like a mad man can play a factor into throwing the opposition off but once they know hes not threat , its over. NYCFC still follow me. . .

A few players follow the @nycfcnation account, as well as a good amount of the team staff, I don't exactly hold back.
