At this rate, we will have to hope not only to get hot at the right time, but also staying in contention for the 7th spot. Dome’s repertoire so far doesn’t add up to achieving even that.

I thought we looked a lot better today. Minus two individual errors, we seemed to have their measure.
Does anybody know what caused the Ofori sub? Or why Parks isn't on the bench? I thought moving Mata and having Sweat at LB lost us control of the match.

I think Ofori sub was because he got injured. Nothing crazy but seemed to look like he had some discomfort in his leg.

This does not quite match the worst 16-consecutive games in NYCFC team history with 16 points but it is the worst 16 games under a single coach. I realized if you take last 9 of Kreis and worst 7 of Vieira (instead of last 8- first 8) that's just 15 points in 16 games, so this not quite tied for worst, but still worst by a single coach, including worse than any 16 games under Kreis and our 2015 roster. That includes the first 20 games of 2015 when the team had a DP appear in games 17 times of a possible 60. But not the worst 16 games ever.

Kreis had an expansion roster with 20 square pegs for the round holes. He was a dope and disaster, but I’ll admit his roster was a complete piece of crap, and PV could only make so many changes because of how the cap was already screwed.
Dome inherited the best roster the club has had and his results speak volumes. What he’s done is worse than the damage Kreis inflicted.
All in favor of setting a yearly expectation of hosting a playoff game say "aye."
Under that criteria, odds are low that Dome lasts. Would absolutely hate to see him sneak us into the playoffs for a one-and-done road game just to keep his job another year.

I don't disagree but also to be fair even a marginally competent front office would start the season with at least a backup level CF on the roster.
I think it's a bit of both though.
Yes, you have to set your team up for success and put players where they'll be most effective.
But I would say good coaches set up their tactics and player roles first then find players who fill those roles best. PV as an example set an identity/playing style and then found players who filled those roles.
He did also have Villa and he found players who complimented him, so yeah, it's probably a bit of both.
That’s fine but lots of teams struggle finding a central striker worth a damn.

There's enough attacking talent on the roster to score enough goals to win. We need a striker, and that player will undoubtedly fix a number of issues, but to act as if without a striker we're aimless offensively belies the talent we have up front.
Is it more important to have the best 11 players on the field or the best formation on the field. Maxi as part of the top three isn't smart. He needs to be in the midfield. But we've also played with 3 defensive midfielders this entire time.
The best lineup would be

A four man backline
2 defensive midfielders with Ring more forward and James behind plus Maxi in the midfield
Two wingers and a striker but since we have no striker, all those pieces are interchangeable.
With all the Dome hate, I do think there are a couple things worth noting.
- Playing Ring "out of position" seems to be having some benefits. Any CAM who scores a goal every 135 minutes is a superstar in this league. I know, small n. But still. He's been heavily criticized for moving Ring and Ring has produced in his new role.
- Sands looks great out there and Ofori just put in his best shift since his arrival. Does Dome play no role in that?

Playing Ring out of position would only make sense if Sands continues to prove as capable as he has been. My fear at first was that Sands would only be decent, making the opportunity cost of moving Ring even greater. Fortunately, of all the moves Done has made this season, this one, so far, has proven to be successful as you said. Hopefully Sands doesn't revert back and continues to develop, because he, in my mind, is the most exciting thing we have going for us this season.
Ring and Sands are complementary players. They are not like for like and can both be played in front of a Back Four or Back Three.
Now that we know Sands is here to stay and Haak is coming, I see no need to keep Ofori long term and no need to keep Parks long term. Let them walk.

One game does not make Ofori a revelation. Maybe Ofori was so effective (I did not find him to be effective but I’m playing along) because Mata was pushing so far up it gave Ofori extra time, but the same pushing up by Mata left the LB zone completely open hence Vela walked in on a through ball with Mitrita defending.....
The issue is, when we have a #9, Maxi will slide back into Ring's role, and Ring into the #8 with Sands as the #6, right? Maybe we'll see a little better midfield play. We had big problems trying to link up around midfield last game, especially from LB/RB. Ring was such a great sprinkler last year and was fantastic about making himself available. I do think it's beneficial to know Ring can play a 10-ish in a pinch, but I think we'll be better with Maxi there as the General with Ring as our outlet man. We really need to offload some wingers, though. Preferably any that are Young DPs
