English Fa's Proposal To Destroy The Premier League....

...or in their mind save it but really it will destroy it.

-Tougher work permit rules have already been put in place.
- A player will have to have been registered with his club from the age of 15 -- down significantly from 18-- to be considered "homegrown".
- the minimum number of home grown players in a club's first team of 25 will increase from 8 to 12.
- At least two homegrown players must be club trained players -- any player, regardless of nationality, that has been registered for 3 years at their club from the age of 15.
-Only the best non-EU foreign players will be granted permission to play in England.

Wow.

If only there were some other league that could welcome some of these non-EU players...

The English FA does not care about the English Premier League and vice versa. Their interests, unlike US Soccer & MLS, are not aligned right now. I think this is a lot more about the English FA posturing to get EPL teams to invest more in developing English talent (which really is a better model for EPL teams to be following anyway) than any serious reform. I imagine the FA may make some changes, but they won't be nearly as drastic as this.

Then again, maybe the English FA are determined that Southampton will win the Premier League.

I can see why they'd be for this. There is almost nothing English about the EPL anymore other than the location. With the way things are moving you aren't ever going to see another Paul Scholes or Alan Shearer again.

There are by far more English players than any other nationality in the Premier League. Look at the guys coming through right now, Luke Shaw, Ross Barkely, Kane, Ward-Prowse, Sterling etc, getting them to play well together for England is a different matter but there will always be good English players in the Premier League.

That's what I meant, 37% of Premier League players are English, the next highest nationality is French with just 7%. The percentage of British players in the Premier League is actually the same as Italians in Serie A.

The continuing drama around England is incredible to me. They're in a weak group, but this is the best England qualifying run I can remember, and they've got some real talent coming through. England have won one major trophy in their history, and even that needed home advantage, luck and a fair amount of gamesmanship. They're not some fallen giant. The ridiculous expectations and second-rate youth development are the problem, not the EPL.

I really can't see this having any effect beyond further inflating fees for the handful of English players who are actually top-caliber.

If anything this would strengthen Man Citys hand considering our new £200m training complex, I'm more concerned about David Gill being appointed Fifa Vice president, he's tried to do us once with FFP and will no doubt keep on trying to get one over on us until United are up there with us again.

Not sure. If it kills the level of the PL and makes it less of a destination, it's going to be harder to recruit. With the best will in the world, even if the Academy turns into a serious talent factory, City are still going to be relying heavier on signings that academy graduates, and even in a world where all City's players come from the academy you'll still get 14-year old players starting to reject a move to England if the PL is only a top 10 league, and not a top 3 one.

That's a good point, they've never been a force.

For me, their disappointing history comes down to one thing. It's a style issue.

Cryuff had total football in the 70's. The Brazilians play jugo bonito. The Italians have their defense. The Germans their counter.

The English haven't adopted a style of play that could dominate the other teams in Europe. They suffer from a lack of cohesive strategy from the U16 up to the National Team.

from what i read the coaching seems to be lacking. i read something like only a few have the UEFA PRO or "A" level coaching license in england and like other countries have many many more.

Also i feel too much politics get involved and red tape and it prevents grassroots football from taking proper form.
