Home - 03/15 New England Revolution

We are losing pace and momentum after villas goal. Defense held up but honestly we got lucky even with some of saunders saves. We need some new energy with the subs. Vellasquez has impressed me, Saunders is good/lucky, Nemec still hasnt shined and villa is pure class. Not much coming from Mix but hopefully that will change. So happy to make it out of the first without any NE goals. Hopefully we advance our lead.

A great second half performance by the lads. Totally controlled it from the off.

Started well in the first half and deserved to take the lead, but after that NE seemed to take over and the crosses Tierney was putting in were top class. Somehow we managed to keep a clean sheet in that period.

I thought Nemec/Villa worked better in this game. The midfield were too narrow and that gave them the advantage wide in the first half. Although we had a clean sheet I am not convinced by the defence yet. Hernandez our best player there.

Most importantly a win in the first game at home!!

Villa is a stud, and I really liked Nemec's hold up play and his ability to win headers. Shelton came in and added something again and I think Kreis needs to look at him as a possible starter. Defense is scary, but it was a lot better in the 2nd half I thought.

Post game thoughts:

-Form is temporary, class is permanent, and David Villa played in class above everyone else on the pitch.
-Defense was shaky at times but they recovered well and played better in the second half.
-Shay Facey in only 10 mins of playing time showed me he is a very talented defender. Would definitely want him to get some starts sooner rather than later.
-Nemec didn't play great but don't think he played bad either.
-Soooooooo happy Ballouchy didn't start or play.
-Shelton has shown he should be a candidate to start, but his current role as a super sub is proving to be very effective.
-Still not that fond of Wingert playing center back. Hoping Mendoza shows improvement in the next couple of weeks in training.
-Atmosphere looked absolutely terrific. Extremely jealous of those who went to the game today!

Nemec actually looked like he knew what he was doing on a pitch! His shot into the side netting fooled me and the ESPN announcers. We and many in the crowd thought he scored.

Saunders was phenomenal. NE could have easily had 3-4 goals today. They came away with none.

Villa was much more mobile in this game. His passing and possession was on par with what we've come to expect from him over hus career.

Velasquez was awful on the defensive end. He left our LB in too many 1 v 1 situations against Thierny. Luckily those wicked crosses didn't hurt us.

Overall we played well.

I don't know how Revs didn't score in that 10-12 min span when they had several chances Late in the 1st half. Our defense is suspect at best. But Villa was easily man of the match, Shelton is our super sub. As Villa said In his post game interview we have room for improvement clearly, but besides that 12 min span late in the 1st half it was our game we looked well worthy of the 3 points espically since we finished our chances. Good job to the fans too great atomsphere, I just wonder how many of the nearly 44K will show up for the next home game. Happy with the result and can't wait for the next game.
