Did you find this out from David Villa's tweet or by some other means? I found it very odd that the club didn't make a single announcement about David Villa not starting / being available. I'm sure someone can come up with a better analogy but it's like the New Orleans Saints starting an NFL regular season game without Drew Brees as quarterback and providing no explanation

They mentioned the injury on the YES broadcast, but you're right, not from the club, not even on Twitter. So strange. Some attitude they had with Lampardgate. Don't acknowledge it at all.

I'm still cold. That was a cold as I've ever been at sporting event. The asshole who picked my season tickets on the first row aisle of the second level deserves an ass whipping. (Yep. That was me.)

Speaking of, some literal scum and his tadpole scum occupied the 2 seats behind me, all decked out in scum gear. The little shit kept on doing this loud, bratty giggle every time a move broke down. He was the definition of a shitty kid. My wife was even ready to throw his ass over the rail. I finally had to turn around and ask the dad if it was genetic or if he taught his kid to be a prick. I usually don't get bugged by people at a match, but shitheads wearing their EPL gear to our match solely to be douche canoes deserve whatever is said to them.
On the train on my way home I was sitting in front of a loud, drunken group of high school kids (I know they were in high school and not frat bros because they were talking about getting picked up by mommy and daddy at the station). They kept yelling obnoxious shit like west ham till I die, go QPR, go Wolfsburg and so on. Plus they knew next to nothing about the team, laughing at player names like Poku.

Well, one of those tools had a Manchester City jersey on. Just sayin...

I like NYCFC but they are a little too comfortable with this deceit thing.

According to the following article, the club knew he wouldn't play as early as Thursday so the only people the front office was deceiving were the home fans. Villa's tweet is time-stamped 6:21pm today [day of match, 39 minutes before kick-off].

With the weather forecast, some people may not have come today if they knew Villa was out, but it's still really bad to withhold this information from the fans. If the leagues / clubs are informed, the fans should be informed as well.

Brovsky has absolutely zero offensive skill, so much so that I think he actually just wastes space in the final third. Had a defender with basic offensive competence been in his spot, we would have had at least a point today.

Considering everything we were missing today, I think we actually played fairly well. When you have sweeping changes from previous matches, you have to expect it to be shaky. Our lineup today was greatly outmatched talent-wise, it would have been a huge steal to get points out of it, and we very nearly did.

brovsky and jacobson offer nothing offensively... but brovskys tackles were pretty classy today.

For those questioning the drop ball: drop balls are given for situations when no other dead ball restart (corner, throw in, free kick etc) is valid. If the ref has to stop play for an injury with no foul, for instance. In this case, the ref clearly blew for a handball, which is either a pen or a FK, depending on who did it. Given that a dead ball was played, and given the length of time the ref took and that no player was penalised, it's my view that the ref and the linesman both realised they couldn't be sure who committed it (it was Jacobson, FYI, based off TV replays) and couldn't persuade each other, so they had to call it as neutral. That's speculation, though.

As for the match: I only caught the second half but that was a poor game. It was almost more like tennis for long periods. The last 25 minutes were positive though. The style of play was nothing to write home about but it showed that the team has mental strength and the ability to ratchet up the pace and movement when they are in a tight corner. The teams to get upset about aren't the ones who fight and lose, they're the ones who show no mental strength to mount a challenge after going down a goal.

I'm going to be lenient and put the failure to equalise on the teething problems of playing on a narrow pitch. Teams who do well on narrow pitches have to be very good passing and creating teams, but you can't build that overnight. It will take time to really get used to the pitch. We need to see some improvement next game though.

@Paul I was in 14 a also. Giving Marin and his sister a hard time. Wonder if I saw you and didn't know it. That is a tough section, because you have the dead zone to your left. Hard to really hear any chants going on in the stadium. Fun to be so close to the action. Crappy game overall

After sleeping on it, our passing was incredibly bad. We need to open up more. So many chances to run down the wing and it was passed back in the middle. I've said it before and more so after watching them yesterday, we need a mix of these two line ups. Calle with Taylor,Villa, Velasquez Shelton. We have some real good talent but we also have some players that just give the ball away.

Being at the game, and behind the goal, it was hard to get an idea of the play. Can anyone tell me how Calle looked apart from his scuffed shots? Kwame seemed to be good at playing out of the back, yes?

For me the problem with Calle was his chemistry: for the most time he didn't make the runs that his teammates where expecting to do or he didn't know to whom give the ball. He played almost on top, sometimes making the same runs that Mullins.

As I see it, the biggest problem of our midfield is Ballouchy. He is the safest player of the world and "safest" here has a negative sense. He never faces opponents, he seldom pass the ball forward. We had problems trying to get the ball forward and more than a few times we gave that responsibility to Hernandez or Wingert. Mix, Ned, Mehdi have to come back, get the ball, face the opponent and open up spaces.

@Paul I thought I was going to need your services, I was so pissed at those man united jerks. Just consider the beer a retainer for when I end up in YS clink.

Missing in action this week:

David Villa (injury)
Frank Lampard (out on loan, we think)
Khiry Shelton (international duty)
Adam Nemec (international duty)
Josh Williams (illness)
Sebastian Velasquez (injury)
Shay Facey (suspension)
George John (injury)

It was always going to be a tough job with that many guys out.

I didn't think the cold was so bad. The temp was roughly the same as the opener and the wind was worse 2 weeks ago.
We dominated possession but did nothing with it, which is not surprising as we were missing both starting forwards, but it wasn't just the forwards. We generally had trouble countering and attacking and just moving the ball forward with a purpose. There was an amusing stretch in the second half when we consistently moved the ball down the left wing and stalled, and everyone in my section spent 5-10 minutes yelling "to the right, it's wide open" and then suddenly it switched, and we would move the ball down the right wing, stall, everyone would stand around, and my entire section yelled "the left, the LEFT! PASS IT TO THE F#CKING LEFT!"

The Villa thing was odd in that he wasn't in the lineup, on the bench, on the injury list, suspended list or unavailable list. I understand teams withhold this info, and not just to screw their fans. Seattle did the same thing last night with Obafemi Martins, who wasn't on the MLS injury report (he's on my fantasy team) and ended up a late scratch. http://www.sounderatheart.com/2015/...chad-marshall-surprise-starting-lineup-dallas
I don't like it, but I'm not going to kill NYCFC on this, although I do think when a player is not pre-disclosed to have an injury and and does not play because of injury an announcement should be made at the stadium. We shouldn't have to start searching hashtags to figure out what's going on.

I thought it was Jacobsen who was ball watching on the goal. I couldn't tell for sure.

Poku totally had quite a few chances to shoot. Can't disagree there. At least he made them, though.

Jacobsen just does nothing with possession. He is a midfield treadmill at best, moves but goes nowhere. Ballouchy is still just frustrating as hell, but at least he tries something, even if it's the wrong ball usually. How many times did the crowd start screaming for either of those two to hit open runs that they just missed. Pretty sad.

I guess Mix is going to be our deepest mid most of the time. If that's the case, I definitely see no reason for Jacobsen to be on the field. Play Poku, as he gets forward with purpose. He's also got the potential to improve still. Jacobsen is a finished product.

I actually thought our CB pairing worked pretty well. They got the hell ran out of them by KC, but made several strong, confident steps to cut out balls that would have been real problems. I liked the confidence in that.

All of that said, I'm watching this from the end line on 1st base side, so to say I don't have the most complete picture is being generous.

^^^^ This!!! In one possession in the last part of the game he had 3-4 chances from the top of the box.. Right in front of us... Whole section was yelling "Shoot!!!!"
