Atlanta's road record is better than their home record. It's not a huge difference, and I bet it flips by the end of the season, and some of the opponents were not too tough, but 2.17 PPG in 6 Away games is more than solid.

Yep, but ATL’s major tactic is kicking long through balls into space and creating a track meet to get there first. They can’t do that at Yankee Stadium unless they want to end up ramming into the walls behind each touchline. That’s what they complained about last year after the YS match- they weren’t prepared for how compact the match was and how quickly the ball would come back at them after a turnover. I don’t think they’ll be a pushover at all, but they’re going to have to play a different style of quick starting/stopping coupled with tighter passes - that’s our game - and they should be more uncomfortable moving the ball.
Ulrich That's why I think Josef Martinez will never make it at a big club, which is fine. He relies heavily on his speed and can be useless against a good offside trap. Also has 4 PK goals (crazy Almiron also has 4). He's talented, sure, and has been exposing poor MLS back lines, but I think he'd struggle with CBs in bigger leagues.
If this is really PVs last match for NYCFC it would make sense with the break coming right after. We'd then host Toronto with our new helmsman. And if that's the case, expect him to run out his best lineup as long as he can, between the break and not worrying about the next match; he should do whatever he can to end with a win. And I guess that's all we can ask of the guy. *

I sure hope if that's the case, he's gotten the info he needs by now and is currently focused on finally winning a cup match and the Atlanta match for first place on the table with a 433 so he can go out on a high note.

This is a game where I hope we see Chanot back. Ibeagha doesn't have the pace to keep up with Almiron or Martinez on the break. We have GOT to stop them from running free. If we can neutralize Martinez the way we did in Atlanta, we have a decent chance. Being at home certainly helps. My friend in Atlanta said that they aren't playing all that well despite their record so that's encouraging too.
Last year they would have dropped 5-7 goals on Philadelphia with a 2-man advantage at home for 70 minutes. Their fans are unhappy with their finishing. But their goal scoring pace is keeping up with last year, and you can't argue with 2+ PPG. I think they are more consistent game to game. Fewer 6-0 blowouts, probably more 2-1 wins.
If we had ever won a cup match in our history, I might agree. But we need that monkey off our backs. Also, don't want NJ to advance closer to wining a cup before us.
Araos mentioned that what Chanot is dealing with is really mentally debilitating and that it'd take a big amount of perseverance to get through it. With him not counting as an international, I really hope we get him on the field somehow tomorrow to get him back in a groove for the rest of the season. He seemed incredibly reserved at the meet and greet on Saturday, but I don't know what he's like normally.
I agree and we need Chant's passing too. Ibeagha has filled in well on defense but his ball skills are no where near Chanot's. In some ways I think the 3-5-2 with Ring in the middle is a strategic cover to remove most of the passing duties from Ibeagha. In many ways the role Ring is playing splitting the CBs and handling distribution is not all that different from the way PV used Iraola to solve the problem of CBs with limited ball skills in his first season with the team. Swapping Chanot for Ibeagha and allowing Ring to go back to bossing the midfield does so much for our ability to move the ball out of the back and through the midfield.

And directly influences both our point standings for playoffs, shield, and CCL as well as directly influences our biggest competitor's point standings for the same.
This is the only remaining game on our schedule that does so.
