Home - August 29 - Chicago (Postgame)

maxi changed the game. him being in there forced parks and ring back and didn't let them go forward as much, which helped us significantly on defense.

going forward we had more cohesion too.

pretty good 2nd half. wish we were more clinical. heber needs to find his scoring boots. GMS still sucks.

wish we saw much more of acevedo. his cameo was once again impressive.

johnson needs to find his confidence and swagger again.

Johnson looks like Chicago Johnson again.

Him. Chanot was fine. Sands looked good.
thiught this was Parks’ best game of the season. Outside of one or two mistakes, thiught he was strong on the ball.
playing Ring in front of Parks and Sands? Nope. I watched the formation defensively today. I understand the thinking. He’s your best pressing midfielder. So play him behind the striker. He kills you offensively.
Mitrita was dangerous in the first half. Thiught thay was the wrong sub
It’s time for Heber to sit. Give him two weeks off.

Disagree regarding Heber. You can see how much he wants that goal. When it comes I think it'll bring him back. He hasn't been as clinical, as he yet again missed a quite literal sitter. But I think stick with him and he'll get there soon. I have faith :-)

Secondly,
I think Maxi is gonna be tipped to get MVP this season assuming no one is gonna have a 40-goal season (sure not looking likely even if covid wasn't here)

It is amazing how much more space the entire team has when Maxi is out there. The attack is just so much more fluid.

The most interesting part of this game is the way we attacked. Remember early in the season and at the tournament, we were attacking with crosses. Today we attacked the way we did last year, with quick one-touch passing and runners off the ball. It fits our style so much better.

God it’s a boneyard here. We played well in the first half and better in the second. All of our whipping boys played well. Medina was actually pretty great I the first half and we shoulda been up 3 at 45. Then Maxi just came in and settled stuff down. Nice to have a very decisive result today. No complaints. Let’s we if we can do it again.

I’ve been talking about it even before the season started. The social media interest has died off considerably. Then it hit here when the season started up again and a lot of people just never came back. Unfortunately it was Villa, Lampard and Pirlo that brought a lot of fans to the club and they left along with them.
I really enjoyed the game. We had some great attacking play and there’s an idea behind what we are doing. They’re trying to collapse their fullbacks and then make runs in behind them and it worked for 2 of the goals.

Didn’t get to watch the game. Couldn’t watch on ESPN plus cause of blackout. I’m going to cry into the void here but I don’t see how this helps MLS. I would have been at the game if these were “normal” times. I feel like my daughter and I are going to loose touch with the team this year now because the only way to watch is to have YES. One might think that MLS would want to keep as many fans connected. Blackouts seem archaic and part of an ugly business model.

Agree that every game requires way too much effort to figure out how to watch it. I watched on FSGO casting to my Chromecast. And last match on ESPN via FireTV. Do you not have a cable sub?

I piggyback on my parents cable Sub.
I watched the last match in Pennsylvania on ESPN + but last night it was blacked out since I was in city.

you need a vpn!

though we shouldn't need to have a VPN to watch local games. that being said, it's pretty much the same situation for yankees fans right? no yes, no yankees for local games.

As much as we like to give the team crap for defending we’re actually near the top in defense. Only Colombus (2) Toronto (7) and New England (6) have less goals allowed. We’re tied for 4th in East having allowed 8 goals along with 3 other teams.
We do allow frustrating goals which come as a result of players switching off but the defense has been good so far. If the last two games are a sign of things to come we have a chance at turning it around. Need to keep building on the offense and capitalizing on opportunities. We’re not scoring amazing goals from outside the box. Most have been fairly straightforward tap-ins and open looks coming as a result of great buildup play.

I wonder if other teams make the same bonehead mistakes that NYCFC seem to make. NYCFC appear to make what I would call unforced errors a couple times a game that result in scores or scoring chances.
Chanot makes so many great tackles under pressure but tends to give the ball directly to the opposition in our defensive third especially
with head balls. Johnson makes fantastic saves keeping us in the game but then has strange slip ups and poor decisions giving the ball back to the opposition (RB gaffe/bungled clear last night). Ring is so determined but seems to make a number of very poor passes giving the ball away that leads to counterattack by the opposition. Matarita, enough said... the description that the team “switches off” seems apt. I felt it happened last year under Dome as well where NYCFC would sleepwalk for long stretches.

Exactly. If you want to watch YES programming, you have to pay for YES programming. This isn't something to complain about -- it's not hard to get YES. Have a cable package, you get YES and you get NYCFC games.
