Landon Donovan Returning to LA Galaxy

Needs to be someone retired so they are not on a discovery list. PV makes all the sense in the world. World class player. Can give us 20 good minutes a match as a super sub. Knows our system inside and out. Been to all our practices. Give the man a 6 match contract!!!

Edit: and for garber's amusement, puts butts in the seats and will get a lot of people to tune into matches on TV.
I'd buy the jersey.

Only if RB also signed their whiner for the remainder of the season so PV could give him a lesson on intensity, tackling, and tasting the turf.

Nothing formal - just every article that discusses player contracts talks about 2-4 year contracts being standard with option years held by the league. The only way anybody leaves after a year or less is by being transferred out to another club or a loan ends.
Standard does not necessarily have to imply policy though. In my line of business our standard contracts are 3-5 years but nothing stops me from writing a contract for one day for example. I would assume the same applies here.

I considered that, but has any player ever come in for a one & done contract (not a loan)? None that I can think of. All left after multiple years, or transferred to another team, or mutually terminated the contract. If you can name any, I'm all ears, and will change my opinion on the matter.

No, but this a unique situation. If a club wanted to sign Maradonna for 1 week, why can't they do that?

Unique situation = new/changing rules.

The irony is that once again, a unique situation develops for LA, and MLS accommodates them completely. If *ANY* other team was in this situation, they wouldn't get a 6 game contract pushed through.

Donovan comes on in the 74', and immediately after nets his first goal of the season off an assist from Robbie Rogers to level the game and salvage a point.
