Local NYC Soccer: Grassroots, Amateur & Semi-Pro

So USL 2 and NPSL and UPSL have ny teams ( brookyltn Italians, cosmos for NPSL and Manhattan SC for USL 2, Astoria Knights in UPSL, i may have missed others) as they are technically, Amateur or semi pro some as some get paid per game others are college kids. to me they are top of the Amateur Pyramid leagues

now in terms of full amateur city leagues you have two: Cosmopolitan League and the Long Island Soccer Football League. Each has lots of teams and multiple divisions. some Open cup winners in cosmopolitan league too.

Found the following on the women's side. The parade made this way harder than it probably normally would be.
Sky Blue FC looks like the closest NWSL team. (Rutgers)
New York Metro Women's Soccer League (www.nywomensoccer.org) has an A and B division. Amateur league.
I recently stumbled upon an interesting site called Protagonist Soccer. It is not local or even regional to NYC but still of interest.

Their tag line is "Lower Tier Soccer | Top Tier Coverage." They try to cover all of the UPSL and NPSL and regional leagues. It seems to be only men's soccer, which I suppose you could fault but it's also basically a 3-guy operation/labor of love.
They dig up interesting storylines and highlight cool kits. Which, by the way, some of these lower league teams have much more interesting designs than anything you see in MLS or even USL.

i think like 90% of the amateur teams play either in the Aviation field ( or whatever its called)/ randalls island/ or the Oval in queens (a historic field as its the last remaining "oval" in the city as there were many before)

...Anyone know about the CSL and LISFL - I haven't played in years, probably since high school (so like 4-5 years), are they looking at players with their last real experience playing over 4 years ago? Or are they looking for people with an actual history of regular soccer?

what do you mean by a rec league? like, just for fun? That's what I'm looking for in truth, I wasn't sure if these leagues are like that or not. Just looking for some sunday-league play-for-fun type of leagues to join!
...My 'level' was pickup games during our breaks at school, so nothing 'real'
Recreational leagues like NYC Footy, NY Coed Soccer, NYC Soccer, Chelsea Piers Field House, ...
You could also try the Streetgols or Street FC apps for more accessible pickup.
I've been talking with another father in my neighborhood about loosely 'organizing' a regular pickup game for kids (like, under-8s, probably) just to kind of get that "empty lot footie" thing going. I'm not sure I really have the time, though.
Oh how far the Kosmos’ aspirations have fallen. Too proud to join the USL, either level of it, so they’re going 3rd division to a league that was supposed to be the feeder league for the NASL, until the NASL went under, and is now a pro/reg league with no other leagues associated with it.
sad.
Oh the sweet sweet irony of that lawsuit....
