Why is Real Salt Lake called Real? It has nothing to do with royality (or any legitemate royality).

Also, why does Houston still have a franchise. They cant get heads in the doors. Same with Colorado.

Why is Vegas being considered for a team? The main industry there is the casinos and given the fact that most casinos are suffering, placing a team there will fail (job lay offs will not lead to a population with enough discretionary income for soccer).

Lets be real: by 2030, the cosmos are gonna be in MLS

1) http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/04/28/how-real-salt-lake-got-their-name-and-colors

2) Folding franchises are signs of a failing league. Unless dire circumstances present themselves I don't think we'll see any teams fold anytime soon. Maybe a relocation but that would be rare too.

3) It's a tourist market and one MLS is not in. The league just want to expand

4) The Cosmos are hellbent on keeping their logo and trademarks. Unless they give in or the league drops single entity, I think the Cosmos aren't joining MLS. And since the headway NYCFC has made in the New York market who would want to root for the Cosmos?

Loved that photo-of-Beckham-with-a-shovel story. Pretty darn cheeky of the team to just hold an event regardless of the actual reality of things!

Hmmmm. Maybe we could learn something from that...

TBF Houston had 20k+ their first 5 or 6 home games, but then they sucked. Colorado was the worst team in MLS last year, but then had 5 or 6 sell outs in a row this year. I doubt Vegas is being considered for the league. And the fuck the cosmos.

What this whole story fails to mention is that the name Real Salt Lake is still incredibly fucking idiotic regardless of whatever convoluted backstory it has. "Team owner had a hard-on for Real Madrid" doesn't make anything better.
no doubt. just putting the back story out there.

No they won't. NASL is in a pretty bad place right now to be honest. Cosmos is supposed to be the flagship team of the NASL and they have some of the worst attendance in the league. Doesn't matter how many titles they win.

With the USL on the rise and D2 status up for grabs, the NASL probably won't even exist in five years.

Its not a legitemate city though. Boston, Philly, New York, Austin, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, Atlanta, DC, all cities. Just because a place has a "downtown area" and calls itself a city doesnt mean it is

what are the requirements to be properly named a "city". population? physical size? downtown area? :p

https://ballotpedia.org/Largest_cities_in_the_United_States_by_population

For example, if Orlando is ranked 77th in the US and has a population of 255K. is it safe to say anyone ranked below Orlando is NOT considered a city?
It has nothing to do with population, but more so population density, housing choices, urban planning etc etc. all the stuff actual cities have
