Mix Gone?

"Patrick Vieira had a long, private conversation with Mix Diskerud following training today. Speculate away. #NYCFC"

Makes me speculate less really. He's still training with us and had a long conversation with the coach. Wouldn't "You're leaving" be a pretty short conversation? And most likely with Reyna?
It is baffling that this makes it seem like we might want to keep him in light of him not making the 18 once in a 3 match week...

We are wildly speculating, but I'll agree. Seems like more of a "we are stuck together the rest of the year, this is what's going to happen and what I need from you."

I think Reyna would be doing the talking if the subject matter was a roster move.

Yeah, that's what it feels like to me too. Can you imagine there were no takers anywhere in the world for him? If that's the case, can we all finally agree his contract is outrageous?

"Vieira said that any talk of a move for Diskerud would be speculation. However, Diskerud has not made the match day squad since NYCFC’s Open Cup loss on June 15. The two had a lengthy discussion after training this morning. Vieira said Diskerud is behind Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and Mikey Lopez on the central midfield depth chart."
C'mon Man.

I should be ahead of Mikey Lopez on the depth chart lol!

Vieira looking for PokemonGo tips? You know Mix, Khiry, and Mikey are all over that. Jack Harrison too.
PV: Mix, what is a Pokee-man?

Mix: It's a game many of us grew up with as kids. Not Andrea, he played Mario Bros.

PV: what do you do?

Mix: you walk, and sometimes run, aimlessly around hunting them.

PV: aimlessly?.?.? Like what Mikey does much of the time on the field?

That statement from Vieira is shocking to me.

I had heard they were shopping him, but I also didn't hear about anyone interested. I just figured they were talking behind the scenes and I didn't know. This makes it sound like there's no one out there that's interested so he's quite openly putting him on the trade block.
This fits the narrative that Mix is perceived to be going through the motions. Vieira's public comments, coupled with the "long personal talk" seems directly intended at lighting a fire under Mix to show more effort. My current theory is that Mix is loving New York, is living it up like old Brazilian players in Miami, and is devoting too much attention to his lifestyle than to his game. Vieira is saying, "hey, you like it here. Prove it or i'll send you to Columbus"

That statement angers me. Whatever Mix is doing, or not doing, in practice cannot possibly be so awful that PV decided playing SKC with tired players in 90+deg heat would give the team a better chance than using a fully rested Mix. Unless an imminent deal fell through, thus necessitating holding Mix out, that decision by PV is incomprehensible.

Diskerud for Besler. Neither can get a place in the respective elevens, so why not a swap? Comparable salaries, both have USMNT presence for marketing presence. Besler is older, but defenders have longer careers.

Not a bad first post!

EDIT: But then I think about it, and do we want to bring Besler onto the team when we are about to sign Chanot. He may have the same difficulty here trying to break up the French Connection - Yes I just named them!

It makes sense. We paid above market value so that the team could launch with a USMNT player on the roster. At the time most small market MLS teams would have paid him the same just for the boost in attendance. He was always over priced on the international market our issue now is that he's overpriced at the MLS level as well because we are paying the typical USMNT premium and he's not really an active USMNT player at the moment.

Interesting. SKC on record as looking for an attacking mid this transfer window.

Some of the reports on Besler from those who watch SKC weekly have been very negative over the past year or so, but given Mix's salary, you are likely going to have to absorb someone else's problem or eat a lot of the salary. Left-sided CB who can play the ball would fit nicely subject to seeing what the mystery that is Chanot actually brings.

“He is going through a difficult period because he is an international player and he needs and wants to play,” Vieira said. “I can understand his frustrations and if there is team that is around that is interested then as a club we will talk about it.”

Ok, reading this again, I think this is about sending him outside of MLS.

There were already rumors we were shopping him to other MLS teams. Its not hard to put a player on the league's internal trade block. This article is confirmation that nobody in MLS wanted him.

A public comment of Mix's availability has to be a strategy of attracting a much broader foreign audience. Also consider the fact that Vieira emphasized Mix's international experience in his comment which was kind of unnecessary there. A foreign club is less likely to scoff at his $750k salary too, especially with a minimal transfer fee.

Prediction: Two weeks time, he's back in Europe and off our books.

What I'm reading about Besler is he missed a game or two for USMNT duty, and the team started winning. Vermes has done this before. When the team gets hot he doesn't mess with the lineup, even if it means sitting a player who happened to be out by chance when the streak started.

I'm afraid that Jason Kreis' statements about Mix may have been somewhat correct (yes, I somehow just said that.) Namely that the hype, persona, excitement and salary set up expectations that were not consistent with actual on-field value. He said it in the typical Kreis way where it sounded uncalled for and critical, but he also intimated that he actually thought it was unfair to Mix. I am not commenting on JK's poor use of Mix (which is well-documented) or whether or not he is a good soccer player, but rather simply on Kreis' impression which seems to be consistent with PV's.
