MLS - July 30 - Columbus (Home)

NYCFC has, at this moment, the highest Goal Differential in the league and is tied for most goals scored with New England who has played one more game (and also plays tomorrow).

Probably too late now, but everyone going to the game tonight, I realize it is full capacity and masks are not required everywhere, but I hope you consider wearing one for the entirety of your visit to yankee stadium.

There is new data coming out in regards to the delta variant and while being vaccinated gives you strong protection against severe symptoms and hospitalization, it is not 100% and according to the study below, breakthrough infections are much more likely than previously thought. Add to that, if you have kids or family/friends who are unvaccinated, they are vulnerable. Delta seems to be even more contagious than prior variants. Mask up and protect yourself!

This study was published today by the CDC:

I am not a doctor or epidemiologist. Just sharing information in case anyone has not already read about this. Be safe fellow supporters!
This is fear porn and people need to stop being emotional. You need to realize that you’re going to get this virus. This virus isn’t going to burn itself out. We’re going to live with this for the rest of our lives probably. Get your vaccinations. Get your boosters. And live your life. It’s here to stay and I hope you can try and enjoy your life.

On top of that, there is absolutely NO evidence that this virus is transmitted outside. None. We have about 11 months of experience with this thing and outdoor sporting events and concerts.

I missed the game tonight so thanks to those posting on the forum. (Still tickled by the Thiago shirt /yellow card posts)
I happened to see the Extra Time headline
“Dothe Columbus Crew Deserve More Respect?”a moment ago which makes the win that much more delicious. Here’s the beginning of the article:

Should the Columbus Crew be higher in the Power Rankings? Head coach Caleb Porter certainly thinks so.
After Columbus' 1-0 victory over Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium last Saturday, Porter called out what he perceives as a lack of respect for his squad, specifically referencing the MLSsoccer.com Power Rankings.

that deserves…

Our first goal resulted from a really impressive little sequence.

After a little chaos following Callens heading a cross from Molino clear, Maxi recovers the ball from Molino and passes to Medina who plays it back a little too heavily. Maxi slides in to keep the ball alive on the touchline and boots it upfield where Taty brings it under control. Taty kicks it over his own head, upfield, and Medina brings it down before knocking it ahead for Thiago to run onto. Thiago takes it to the corner and wins a corner kick with some good skill. Medina takes the corner and Taty scores.

Good stuff.

Announcers had a great stat -- NYCFC most shots in the MLS AND fewest shots allowed in MLS this season as of tonight.

The Tiago to Parks goal was brilliant. This is one of those stretches where we dont look like we are playing in the same league as other teams. Really fun to watch.

Glad you posted this. That extra effort by Maxi to keep the ball in play, that started the whole sequence— he could have easily been like “meh” and let it go out and nobody would have thought twice. The whole sequence from that to the goal was *chef’s kiss*

I hope someone asked Porter in the post game press conference if he felt that this game would help his team move up the mls soccer dot com power rankings.

YES said it was 15 in 4 games this season at Yankee Stadium.

Pretty sure the Stadium board said 20 goals in last five YS games, including tonight. I remember thinking it was just another four-goal night...

Another stat they posted was that at YS games this year we had outscored opponents something like 12-1, not sure at what point in the match that was (the one was vs. Toronto; now two with the PK at the dying).

I just rewatched the sequence. Parks also did a thing before the corner where he got in Room’s space and had to be told to give Room some, room. In response the Crew assigned a defender to mark him and as Medina served, Parks cleared out dragging the defender with him and Room was left alone in front of goal so it was basically wide open.

Speaking of 7-0, I am not sure if I saw this right and don't have a DVR to check, but rewatching the match this morning, it looked to me like when BWP was taken off, he responded to the jeers by holding up seven fingers. Anyone care enough to check that?
