MLS - March 22 - Columbus (Away)

We've needed 3 GKs including Romero to fill out a 20 man roster with 3 players out. With 8 out including Romero my math says we're down to 15 available players unless we use more of those limited up/down MLSII thingies.

there it is: New York City FC Signs Goalkeeper Alex Rando, Midfielder Peter Molinari and Forward Seymour Reid to Short-Term Agreements | New York City FC

but hey.. jansen said this roster is fine! complete. :D

edit: one of the recent MLS articles says the crew have the smallest roster in the league. so i guess it's a battle of the small rosters today.

We’ll probably need 5 II players on the bench to fill out the match day roster. Cool, but don’t worry we have a compete roster. Anyways I’m sticking with trying to be positive and not let David Lee ruin more of enjoyment I’d love to see Reid get a few minutes tonight.

yea gotta stay positive or it'll be hard to enjoy the season.

despite the crew's similar roster "completeness" as ours, they are a very good team. well coached and currently undefeated.

I'd be very happy to get out of there with a point but I don't see why we can't steal 3 points if our youngins continue to step up their game as they have been. Just need bakrar to find his finishing boots and the competition at the #9 will benefit us greatly.

That’s a great perspective. With a deeper roster, we likely wouldn’t get to see Shore and some of the younger players in action.

I’m looking forward to a Bakrar start. Like Gotham Gator Gator, I still believe he has the potential to break out. It’s puzzling why so many are patient with Ojeda and Fernández but quick to write off Bakrar. He’s just as fast as Fernández, has better off-the-ball movement, and is easily our hardest-working attacker. To me, the chances of any of the three breaking out seem about equal.

For me it is about his shooting touch. I have been rooting hard for Bakrar all along. I love his work rate and movement. He absolutely gets into positions to score. Unfortunately he has had a horrible shot at the key moment.

Ojeda and Fernandez have had comparably very few shooting opportunities. And while Fernandez has a few notably weak shots, he also has a few really nice strikes. And Ojeda is unknown as he has almost no shots to date. That’s clearly an issue, but hopefully getting into better scoring positions is something Pascal can help them with. I’m not sure how much he can help Bakrar with shooting touch.

ETA: I’m still rooting hard for Bakrar. I’m not sure there’s anyone I feel better for when he scores.

Outstanding job by Pascal Jansen, and incredibly unfair by David Lee to put those players in that situation. We had three 17-year-olds on the field at the end of the game. I don't think even college teams would have three 17 year olds on the field at once.

I don't care how well or poorly those three players played, it is a dereliction of duty by David Lee to have our roster this thin. We only had one notable player out for international duty. I know we have a few injuries, but not so many that we should have to rely on this many young players.

As for the game, very brave performance by the guys on the field. There was a sequence from around 21-23rd minutes when we had possession the entire time, creating chances, making pass after pass, recycling the ball ... it was gorgeous. Then Keaton got hurt and the entire game went to hell.

Those 2-3 minutes notwithstanding, the Crew controlled us even with Parks on the field. His injury was a bad to worse deal.

I thought we were fine for the first 25 minutes. No real threats, but we had a little of the ball. I really thought the Parks injury changed the game.

Those final stats are incredible. The only player we missed on international duty was Alonso. We had a bunch of guys injured, but our depth still doesn't have to be this thin. Inexcusable to send that roster into an MLS game.

went to check out the highlights as i missed the game.

turned out it was a crew highlight real cause we had zero highlights in the attacking third except for one half shot by maxi from distance. Very happy to get a point though and the boys fought hard for that point based on the highlights. lots of last ditch defending.

really sucks that parks got injured. we are dropping like flies this year and our roster couldn't be thinner at key positions!

get off your ass David Lee and DO SOMETHING!

Dereliction of Duty David. I’d love to know what goes through his head when watching a game like tonight’s.

Didn’t watch the game. But seeing the stats, looks like I didn’t miss anything. Did we have any highlights?

Only if you call having 3 17 year olds on the pitch at the same time a highlight. Parks got hurt halfway through the first half and we lost all ability to move the ball past midfield.

Up until Keaton got hurt and left the game in the middle of the first half it was a fun game with both sides looking good and having moments... after that, it was the Alamo, and I don't know how we escaped with a point but we did, with three 17 year olds on the field at the final whistle no less
